Mercury Stations Direct & Saturn Stations Retrograde

Mercury Stations Direct & Saturn Stations Retrograde

June 3rd ~ 10th

I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do. ~ Edward Everett Hale

On Friday (or Thursday) June 3rd, Mercury finally stations Direct at 26º Taurus 05’. And just one day later on June 4th, Saturn stations Retrograde at 25º Aquarius 15'. They are almost exactly square one another. Even more chilling, is that they are catalyzing the recent Lunar Eclipse from May 16th, which was at 25º Scorpio 17’. Both in fixed signs, Mercury and Saturn are straddling the Nodal Axis and the recent Eclipse point.

Eclipses can remain in effect for weeks and months after they occur, not only because of the turmoil they stir up in our lives, but because of the ramifications and consequences of what is being revealed. These are turning points that can change paradigms and bring long-term consequences to a head. The South Node in Scorpio has domain over things that are often dark, frightening, and overwhelming: death, atrocities, addiction, mental illness. Those things that are taboo, unthinkable and generally ignored or avoided. Things that fill us with fear and foreboding. It’s what we don’t want to deal with, but we must: Hard choices, adult decisions, inevitable outcomes. Hard truths.

Often during Eclipse season it can feel like we are overloaded with a barrage of information. And yet, while Mercury has been retrograde, we did not necessarily have the specific facts we needed in order to make informed decisions. Normally when Mercury stations direct again clarity begins to resume. The answers are plain. But with Mercury square Saturn, although we may see things all too clearly, we feel stopped in our tracks, obstructed, delayed, and blocked by circumstances or others.

  • Hard Facts. Having to face the truth about our current situation.
  • Being realistic about what we can or cannot do. What is or is not sustainable.

When Saturn stations retrograde it makes it all too clear what is or is not sustainable. We give ourselves permission to say No More, to set boundaries and withdraw from obligations that have become too hard. This is also when others will be doing the same, and are more likely to withdraw from agreements, or tell us No. And as we become more aware of what is or is not possible, we are forced to regroup and go back to the drawing board. Plans need to be revised, redrawn and rescheduled within the reality of the new parameters that are being established.

Because of this it can often feel like we are needing to take two steps back before we can go forward again. And it may seem like we are having to go back over old territory that we had thought we were already through with. But there are details that need to be addressed. Practical considerations to be sorted out. Grown up decisions to be made.

Saturn will be retrograde until October 23rd, and for the months that Saturn is in its retrograde phase, we are being asked to internalize some of the more positive traits of Saturn, such as: Patience, Attention to Detail, Organization, Self-Restraint, stalwart Persistence, Fortitude and Self-Respect. We are to do this while also having to face and neutralize and cull out the denizens of Saturn, those things that freeze us in our tracks, and immobilize us with Fear; not being able to let go of Control; Guilt; Attachment to a past that no longer is; Pessimism; Doubt and Stagnation. Saturn can overwhelm us with negativity, if we only focus on what we cannot do. But Saturn can also strengthen us, when we are able to face things objectively and focus not only on what can be done, but what NEEDS to be done. For the months that Saturn is retrograde, we have the opportunity to grow in ways that we might not have thought possible, developing our leadership skills, and a deeper meaning of what it means to be responsible, and step up to the plate.

As Mercury stations direct on Friday it is also sextile Neptune in Pisces and trine Pluto in Capricorn. In order to fulfill our purpose and be more effective, we are needing to release those things that are no longer sustainable and supportive and might actually be preventing us from growing and evolving. It takes courage to face our fears, and accept the consequences of decisions. But with Mercury also sextile Neptune and trine Pluto we are also being asked to focus on those things that we CAN do to move towards our ideals. We are capable of evolving and growing. And so, even in the face of extraordinary challenges, Mercury is turning its face towards the future. A future that holds greater promise and fulfillment, if we are but willing to put in the hard work and sacrifice that is being required of us to make it so.
