Your Guide To Planetary Energies For September 23 to 29, 2019

THE SUN ENTERS LIBRA very early on Monday (12:50 a.m. PDT), marking the equinox and a change of seasons. This is the halfway point through the astrological year, and is a powerful time for ceremony--especially with the intention of creating more harmony, balance, and beauty in your life.

The horoscope drawn for an equinox or solstice acts as a birth chart for the season that is beginning. So, what do we see in the birth chart for the next three months?

THERE ARE several ingredients in the mix to consider. With the final Jupiter-Neptune square occurring just yesterday (Saturday, September 21), the energy of that square is very strong is the equinox chart. This means that our opportunities for spiritual growth will be plentiful through the December solstice, and we will see continued growth in our capacity for empathy and compassion.

Among the challenges, there will be even more questioning of what is truth and what is deception. In the physical realm, we are likely to see more water events that are disruptive, with rainfall higher than normal. Legal issues related to the opioid crisis will continue to unfold, and concerns about vaping will increase.

MOST NOTABLY, there is a cardinal T-square in the equinox chart. This type of configuration represents stressful situations that tempt us to be constantly on the go, as we attempt to navigate and control outcomes. A T-square requires us to have greater self-awareness, discipline, and patience in all our endeavors.

This particular T-square involves the Moon and North Node in Cancer; Saturn, Pluto, and the South Node in Capricorn; and Mercury and Venus at the apex in Libra.

I JUST REACHED for my Dynamics of Aspect Analysis book by Bil Tierney, to see what he has to say about this type of T-square, and I opened directly to the page that talks about Mercury being at the apex of a cardinal T-square! So, thinking that this passage from the book is worth quoting:

"In a cardinal T-square, apex Mercury accelerates the thinking process, heightening our ability to comprehend data. But, we have a strong impulse to immediately apply what we learn without much deliberation or forethought. We are prone to have direct communication problems with others that are openly confrontational. Our mind may be too busy racing ahead of itself to allow for careful reflection and thorough analysis."

With Venus also at the apex:

"New developments are always occurring in our associations, which are exciting, dynamic, but openly challenging in nature. We need to evaluate pros and cons in a practical manner before making quick commitments we may later regret."

It will be vital, over these next three months, that we heed the advice of pausing and breathing before we make decisions, speak, or commit to an agreement or financial arrangement.

THE MOON'S ALIGNMENT with the North Node at the equinox confirms that children are leading the way into the future, and will play a pivotal role in events over the next three months. We've seen this powerfully in effect over the past week, with young people around the world protesting, calling upon adults and governments to pay attention to the issue of climate change.

The opposition between the Moon and Saturn in the equinox chart indicates a tug of war that will continue into the coming season. Old systems that keep us separate are being challenged. There is an evolutionary mandate in place, requiring that humanity shift to become more heart-centered and emotionally connected with each other.

Saturn's alignment with the South Node, another component of the equinox chart, is exact on Friday. This is the final conjunction, having occurred twice before, on April 30 and July 4. This strongly karmic influence demonstrates where we default to old ways of resolving current problems. It brings into sharp relief the fact that old systems are no longer adequate.

A NEW MOON occurs on Saturday, at 11:26 a.m. PDT, when the Sun and the Moon align at 5°20′ Libra. The two planets form two significant aspects at the time of the lunation: an opposition to Chiron, and a tight quincunx with Uranus.

The opposition to Chiron indicates that this coming lunar cycle is activating a healing process, and perhaps a healing crisis. We are challenged to love ourselves more deeply and with greater courage. As we reach new levels of self-knowing, we release old fears that we are not enough. We find within ourselves the confidence and courage to claim our birthrights of personal fulfillment.

The quincunx between the Sun/Moon and Uranus signals that an undercurrent of rebellion is rising to the surface. This may happen suddenly or unexpectedly, setting us off balance at first. With Uranus involved, we are encouraged to be open to new ideas and insights that will take us in new directions. Along the way, we will need to let go of our previous perceptions of what is possible.

THE ENERGIES of the fixed star Turais are activated at this New Moon, helping us stay upright as we navigate stormy seas. In his book The Magic of the Stars, Roderick Kidston writes:

"Turais brings into the world themes of protection. There is something here about the drive to maintain an even keel, about holding on and holding firm, preserving, and keeping safe. The protection of Turais can take many forms. It begins with looking after yourself, but you are likely to find yourself looking after other people, too, or keeping an idea or ideal safe, or even going all out as an activist for a cause."

It sounds like there are more environmental protests likely over the course of the next month, as Turais augments that "drive to preserve and keep safe."

Kidston goes on to explain that Turais brings out the spiritual warrior within us. Under the guidance of this fixed star, we become more clear about our higher purpose:

"You are here to be and to do good. Blessed with a vivid imagination and a brave heart, you take on life with gusto and commitment. There are no halfway measures. It's all the way or no way, as you work with all your might to leave the world a little better than you found it."

IT BECOMES MORE CLEAR, now, the relevance of the New Moon's hard aspects to Chiron and Uranus. If we are truly to act upon the courage of our convictions, we must first heal the facets of our being that feel minimized and directionless (Chiron in Aries). We also must be open to new insights, and be willing to adjust our attachment to the status quo (Uranus in Taurus), which may actually have been holding us back.

As a last thought, here's the (slightly reworded) Sabian symbol for the New Moon, which echoes much of what Turais represents:

"An individual watching their ideals taking a concrete form before their inner vision: The need to visualize clearly one's dreams or ideals in order to make them truly effectual."

Sounds like an especially powerful New Moon for setting higher intentions and visualizing where we want to go from here.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: You are on a healing journey this year, one that will move you beyond old relationship patterns, especially those of codependency. Your primary work is to acknowledge and honor your own individual needs, especially if you often say "Yes" even while your gut is saying "No." As a result, change occurs. This may be uncomfortable at first, mostly because it is unfamiliar. But, you are ultimately liberated and find new opportunities for self-expression, as you learn to live even more authentically and unapologetically. (Solar Return Sun opposite Chiron, quincunx Uranus)
