A Method Of Forgiveness Using A Buddhist Prayer

forgiveness a method of forgiveness using a buddhist prayer

Forgiveness can take place via a wide range of methods and choices, but why should we forgive? How does that help us?

Take a moment to read this Buddhist prayer below — don’t rush through, be gentle with yourself as words can trigger memories.

“If I have harmed anyone in any way either knowingly or un-knowingly through my own confusions, I ask their forgiveness. If anyone has harmed me in any way either knowingly or through their own confusions, I forgive them. And if there is a situation I am not yet ready to forgive, I forgive myself for that. For all the ways that I harm myself, negate, doubt, belittle myself, judge or be unkind to myself through my own confusions, I forgive myself.”

These words can assist with detachment and letting go of karma; peace will come if you let it, as you leave behind thoughts, those energetically attached from events.

Stuff happens. Life is about stuff happening. All stuff happens for a reason. When stuff is happening, elements of our ego — identified by meditating on our daily emotional reactions — cause us to respond and make decisions in ways which manifest situations requiring forgiveness.

These events that take place (when all that stuff happens), can sit with us, causing repeating thoughts that influence our mood and form energetic attachments (thought forms) that reside within and around our energy system and aura.

This prayer, which you may want to modify to suit your own understandings, would be very beneficial to repeat at least once a day, every day, during your meditation or quiet time. Usually we need to repeat affirmations and prayers many times before they can merge with us and make a real difference.

We grow up with guardians, usually parents, who are responsible for us. They have their own makeup combined of a wide range of factors influencing their decision making process; astrology, personality, conditioning based on how they were treated when growing up—including events after becoming adults—gene/dna memories, past life experiences and more, can all define them.

Through forgiveness we are not just letting go of how others have treated us, but how we judge ourselves. Don’t forget to forgive yourself based on all of those conditions which make us who we are.

Everyone makes mistakes and no one’s perfect; this is life, this is what being human is all about.

If we don’t forgive and let go, our health can be impacted, as each of the seven primary energy centers — the chakras — tie directly into events that occur in life based on their emotional impact. Forgiveness therefore provides healing.

Here’s a few quotes to further expand on the importance of forgiveness and letting go.

“The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.”
― Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience

“Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.” ― Mark Twain

“Forgiving does not erase the bitter past. A healed memory is not a deleted memory. Instead, forgiving what we cannot forget creates a new way to remember. We change the memory of our past into a hope for our future.” — Louis B.

“People have to forgive. We don’t have to like them, we don’t have to be friends with them, we don’t have to send them hearts in text messages, but we have to forgive them, to overlook, to forget. Because if we don’t we are tying rocks to our feet, too much for our wings to carry!”
― C. JoyBell C.

“True forgiveness is when you can say, ‘Thank you for that experience.’”
― Oprah Winfrey

Now scroll back to the top and read that prayer again, but this time read it in a way so that you mean every single word.
