Chrysocolla is a very beautiful stone with much beneficial energy. Chrysocolla is a stone of peace, increased wisdom, and discretion. It can also help to regulate stress-related digestive problems and thyroid gland functioning.

How does it do all these things? Chrysocolla releases the cells that hold on to sickness, which clears the way for healthy new cells to regenerate tissue and organs. This stone can be placed directly on the effected body position, for alleviating cramps, infections of the throat, detoxifying the liver, lowering blood pressure (heart) or assisting recovery from burns.

It has been used by musicians for its healing properties for the throat and lungs.

Chrysocolla CabochonA stone with very feminine energies, chrysocolla can ease the mental and emotional pains of any troubled relationship by relieving tension and bringing out your inner strengths:

When attempting to remove yourself from a troublesome or even dangerous relationship or situation, especially those filled with emotional tension, draw a nine inch circle on a piece of paper. Set a piece of chrysocolla in the center of the circle, sit and meditate on what this situation is costing you in manners of self-esteem, physical danger, emotional stress and psychological duress, as well as monetarily. Do this for nine nights, each time moving the stone closer and closer to the edge of the circle. In the meantime, take whatever measures are appropriate and necessary for you to be safe. By the end of the ninth night, you should be able to remove the stone completely from the circle.

If however, you have procrastinated, and taken no steps to physically help remove yourself from this situation, moving the stone to the edge of the circle will not gain you freedom from the problem. You may start again, but you should consider why you were unable to do it the first time, before beginning again.

Chrysocolla has a monoclinic crystal system and is in the mineral class of ring silicates. It is formed by a secondary process in the oxidation zone of copper ore where surface water that contains silicic acid dissolves the copper out of the rock. Because Malachite is formed in the same type of manner, it is not uncommon to find the two joined together.

It can crystallize in the form of crusts, layers, large masses and even needle-like crystals. Its coloring can range from green to turquoise to blue shades, and is sometimes found with brown or black splotches.

Polished Chrysocolla Jewelry

Chrysocolla is perhaps more appropriately a mineraloid than a true mineral. Most of the time it is amorphous meaning that it does not have a coherent crystalline structure. However at higher temperatures it does demonstrate a distorted crystal structure that seems to be composed of Si4 O10 sheets. Chrysocolla forms in the oxidation zones of copper rich ore bodies.

Chrysocolla is often found alongside quartz, copper minerals, azurite, and limonite. Chrysocolla generally occurs as a bright green or bluish crust or as compact grapelike clusters of stone. When found mixed with malachite, turquoise and azurite, it creates a wonderful product called Eilat Stone (a gem associated with King Soloman's Mines) as well as bringing the metaphysical qualities of each of those mineral/crystals to create a powerful healing stone.

Pure chrysocolla is soft and fragile and therefore not appropriate for use in jewelry. However, chrysocolla often is "agatized" in chalcedony quartz and it is the quartz that provides the stone with its polish and durability. Druzy Chrysocolla is a rock composed of agatized chrysocolla with a crust of small sparkling quartz crystals in small cavities. A skilled craftsman, if able to polish a specimen that accentuates the coloured swirls of chrysocolla and sparkles of the druzy quartz, can produce a lovely and valuable piece of jewelry. Occasionally, chrysocolla can have a turquoise color and be used as a fraudulent substitute for the more precious stone.

History

For thousands of years, as legend tells it, chrysocolla has been a stone of conciliation and reassurance thought the world. In ancient Egypt, it was called the 'wise stone' as those who wore it generally came up with clever comprises when it seems and unbearable pass in negotiations. It was also thought it would protect the wearer against psychological damage as well. Lore also tells that this stone had the power to make violent people more sensitive and tolerant, which is apparently why Cleopatra carried chrysocolla with her everywhere she went.

Sources of Chrysocolla

Chrysocolla Stones

It is a copper bearing mineral found wherever copper deposits occur especially in areas of the South-western USA; Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and even Pennsylvania. Globally it is found in Chile, Zaire, Israel, Mexico, Peru, Afghanistan, Australia, Czech Republic, the former USSR, Congo, France and England. Chrysocolla grows in large sizes and is not considered rare or hard to find. However, this mineral is rarely mined today, which is what creates its high price tag.

Eliat Stone is a variegated blue and green mixture of chrysocolla and other copper minerals found in the Gulf of Aqaba, near the North-western end of the Red Sea.

Uses: Pure chrysocolla is generally too soft for main line jewelry purposes although, beads can be created with it, as well, it is often found in quartz deposits which make the chrysocolla hard enough to polish for cabochons and other products.
