The August 2025 New Moon at 1 Virgo Pt. 1

The August 2025 New Moon at 1 Virgo Pt. 1

What’s Happening in August-September 2025

The New Moon in August is happening soon! After the “karmic adjustments” of July and the freedom we’ve embraced the past month, we’re now able to apply that energy in new “significant forms.”

This will be a disruptive month, with squares and a Yod and quintiles in play!

This Lunation introduces a new focus wherever we have 1 Virgo, a degree of discernment about seeing what’s primary and what’s secondary in any given form. The energy of Leo needs specific crafting in Virgo to express the creative heart potential in precise ways which result in the “perfect forms” of Libra.

This New Moon is the fourth in the Saturn in Aries era. Since Saturn is about to retrograde back into Pisces at the end of August, it’s the last New Moon with Saturn in Aries until the Feb 2026 New Moon at 29 Aquarius promising major transfigurations for all of us in late February and March! However, while Saturn and Neptune are still in Aries and sextile both Uranus and Pluto, we continue to experience the future-in-the-making of that very productive and harmonious “three note chord” showing the future of the spiritual field in 2026.

While the double sextile and trine between Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto will continue in September and most of October, we’ll then return to one last look at Saturn and Neptune in Pisces and Uranus in Taurus through the Autumn and into the Winter, with the Fire/Air configuration coming back in early 2026.

Due to where the inner planets are now, the focus of activity these next 4 weeks is spread out in a 33+ degree span which begins with Venus at 28 Cancer and ends with the Lunation at 1 Libra. Given the Lunation is the focus of a Yod from the Saturn/Neptune sextile Pluto, some adjustments are on the way!

If we add Jupiter and extend it to Mars, then we have 6 planets between 17 Cancer and 11 Libra. The span begins with Jupiter at 17 Cancer, followed by Venus at 28 Cancer, Mercury at 13 Leo, the Lunation at 1 Virgo, and finished by Mars at 11 Libra across a 84+ degree span. You can see it’s a very crowded situation wherever we have mid-Cancer to mid-Libra in our chart.

An Overview of the New Moon

Today we’ll do an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In part 2 we’ll cover Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.

This distributive, disruptive, “expansion through sacrifice” creative and expressive New Moon at 1 Virgo occurs at 11:07 pm PDT on August 22, 7:07 am BST on August 23. This brings sacrifices and adjustments as the square to Uranus challenges us to use our genius in precise and discriminating ways, expressing our heart’s desire and if needed, tearing us away from the known and familiar. Make sure things are fair, protect yourselves from “aggressive social elements,” and enjoy the intensification which will put you in touch with kindred Fire Spirits.

We are now in a season of the inner planets making oppositions to Pluto, Saturn, and Neptune. While this Lunation has only one out of sign opposition between Venus and Pluto, in the coming weeks we’ll have Mercury and the Sun both opposing Saturn and Neptune.

At this time of year the Sun shines a light on all of us in our Virgo sector, allowing us to eliminate what is no longer effective in our role to play in the larger Aquarian emergent energy. This New Moon will jumpstart Virgo energy wherever it falls in our chart, and bring lessons of discerning what to let go of and where to focus the expansive energies. This is the time to be practical as we learn to be good servants to a greater good.

So What Rules the Lunation?

This New Moon in Virgo has Mercury in Leo as its ruler. So while the theme is on practical discernment, this will still have a powerful Leo element in play as a “behind the scenes” influence.

As Virgo is in the axis of the Archetype of the Priest(ess), healer, Shaman and Guide, we enter into a period of guiding others or being guided into a new awareness. This is the Light of Divine Discrimination, Viveka, where we learn how to serve with humility and focused attention as we make needed adjustments and adaptations these next four weeks, so guide or be guided according to your training and purpose.

So this Lunation is ruled by Mercury in Leo, setting up a powerful “Mutual Reception,” a self-contained mutually reinforcing closed energy field. Venus in Cancer is ruled by the Moon. Mars in Libra is ruled by Venus. Jupiter in Cancer is ruled by the Moon, Saturn in Aries is ruled by Mars, Uranus in Gemini is ruled by Mercury, Neptune in Aries is ruled by Mars, and Pluto in Aquarius is ruled by Saturn.

So this month all the planets are ruled by the Mutual Reception between Mercury and the Sun. You can find out more about dispositors in general, chains of dispositors, and mutual reception by going to dispositors and Mutual Reception at the link.

Who Leads the Light?

At this time, the “gateway to the light” is Mercury at 13 Leo. This indicates the “entry to illumination” involves heart-knowing to retire from situations and people who no longer feed our hearts, and will bring “rewards of growth from outer to inner realms, and “serenity through the overcoming of storms.” So when these are happening, expect illumination to follow.

Mercury will continue to be the gateway to the Light until the Superior conjunction of Mercury with the Sun in mid-September, after which Venus will be the gateway to the Light. The study of which planet leads the Sun is a crucial but often overlooked part of understanding how the planets work in sequence.

The Sun/Moon Sequence and Its Shifts

There are two patterns: one with the Sun in the same sign as the Sun in the following Full Moon (New Moon between 1-15 degrees of a sign), and one with the Sun in a different sign than it’s in at the following Full Moon (New Moon between 16-30 degrees of a sign). I term these the “Natural” pattern and the “Alternate” pattern, since the Natural pattern shows a continuity of the Light, whereas the Alternate pattern bridges the Light across two signs. Each pattern has its importance in the Soli-Lunar sequence, and at the end of each period of the Natural pattern we shift into a pattern which “bridges the Light” across two different Light signs in the Lunation cycle.

We are now at the fifteenth and last New Moon in the sequence of the Sun sign of the New Moon being the same as the Sun sign of the following Full Moon. The next New Moon at 30 Virgo is a Solar eclipse, and the Full Moon which follows will have the Sun at 15 Libra. That begins an era when the New Moon Sun sign will be different than the Sun sign of the following Full Moon.

This month’s New Moon Sun is at 1 Virgo, and the coming Full Moon Lunar eclipse Sun is at 16 Virgo. This indicates that we’re at the end of 15 months when the illuminated seed forms of the New Moon are the same energies which will find fulfillment at the Full Moon.

The New Moons and Full Moons are “God’s footprints in time.” Each shows the next in the 12 phases of how things come to be each year. The cycle could be described as follows: Life energy is initiated in Aries, substantiated in Taurus, explored in Gemini, grounded in Cancer, renewed and creatively expressed in Leo, refined and ordered in Virgo, balanced and made pleasing in Libra, purified and focused in Scorpio, expanded in Sagittarius, organized in Capricorn, solidified into a vision in Aquarius, and ended/perpetuated in Pisces.

Eclipses Effects in Play

The 2023 and 2024 Solar eclipses have been removing parts of our lives where we have 10, 20 and 30 Aries, and 11 and 22 Libra. We now care about other things, have a new focus, and can join with others for mutual strengthening. We continue to eliminate old ways of self-expression and equivocating in relationships, and now have eliminated old associations to create space to join with others to overcome “seasonal impotency.” We are now freed of many old ideals and areas we used to work within. All of these eclipses ask us “What is the purpose to what you leave behind and what you’re moving into?”

The recent powerful Total Lunar eclipse at 24 Virgo/Pisces has been removing many things from that sector over the past few months, and the coming Lunar eclipse at 16 Virgo/Pisces will continue to remove old things we no longer need from that sector. The Lunar and Solar eclipses in March 2025 were the last with Neptune in Pisces, as Neptune will be in Aries for all future eclipses.

Jupiter and Saturn

A new era began at the 22 Taurus Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in April 2024, launching a new 13 year adventure into new lives. That conjunction theme is about us seeing “the white dove flying over troubled waters” which promises that our ordeal is completed and we are or will see a sign from Spirit announcing a new day, a new land, and a new life wherever we have 22 Taurus.

Over the past two weeks Jupiter made “fated” biseptiles to those planets, accenting this as a major “fork in the road of destiny” as we move into the Jupiter tredecile Saturn, promising serendipitous events and opportunities for those with planets near 1-3 Aries/Libra, 5-9 Taurus/Scorpio, 11-15 Gemini/Sagittarius, 17-21 Cancer/Capricorn, 23-27 Leo/Aquarius, and 29-30 Virgo/Pisces. In this New Moon chart Jupiter furthers rapid growth in integration, with crucial inner emergent elements coming forth due to Jupiter making semi-squares with the Lunation and Uranus.

Saturn is extraordinarily important in this New Moon because it is retrograde at 1 Aries and a leg of the Yod. It’s now reviewing early Aries before reviewing late Pisces from September through late-November, when it goes stationary direct at 26 Pisces. We’ve now seen the threshold of an entirely new era, but will have to take a last look back this Autumn as Saturn finishes “structuring” what Neptune brought in Pisces.

Still, Saturn was part of the weaving of a new spiritual field energy created by Neptune and Pluto in new signs with Uranus joining to make it a “three note chord” in July and August. This has been a Summer “dress rehearsal” for what will resume in February.

When Saturn retrogrades back into Pisces it will make another septile to Pluto between late October and mid-January. The first was in May, showing the larger Aquarius era has hit a major “fork in the road” with hard edged, non-rational events in play. The final turning of the wheel will be in December.

This primarily affects those with planets near 2-6 Aquarius, 24-28 Pisces, 15-19 Taurus, 6-10 Cancer, 28 Leo-2 Virgo, 19-23 Libra, and 11-15 Sagittarius. If you have something in one of these zones, the spiritual field has brought you to a fork in the road of your fulfillment.

Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend

Because Saturn has occupied Aries since late May, it has taught us about self-initiated direct action and finding objectivity and humor. Because it is still ruled by Mars in Libra for the next 9 days, Saturn will be weighing and judging the fairness to things.

Once it retrogrades back into Pisces, then it’ll have Jupiter in Cancer as its ruler. The trine from Jupiter to Saturn begins by mid-September, and stays in play through early January. Saturn ruled by Jupiter in Cancer should make Saturn more caring, more sensitive, and more nurturing, especially since Jupiter is exalted in Cancer and therefore stronger in expression than Saturn in Pisces.

Saturn in Aries has shown us initial lessons in taking the initiative; once it retrogrades back to Pisces, we’re getting our final exams in Saturn’s Master Class in compassion and forgiveness practices so we can move forward with our initiatives in February.

Making friends with our inner Saturn is the most important thing we can do to fulfill our spiritual destiny. If you want to know more about your power to throw off oppressive limitations and fears, please give yourself the timeless gift of my book, Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend When we make friends with our inner Saturn we claim our power to fulfill our higher purpose as Spirits in the material world.

The book shows how we can use Saturn’s strengths and skills to master life on our own terms. By owning our ability to demonstrate Saturn's virtues, we take command of our destiny and become the Higher Self we were born to make manifest!

It was written for both astrologers and non-astrologers, and gives you an understanding of how your experiences assisted your Soul growth and power to change unhelpful karmic patterns. Each time you re-read any part of it you’re sure to find undiscovered gems of insight helping you throw off attitudes which frustrate your ability to live your higher Purpose on your own terms.

A Look Back - The Great Compression of 2020 in Capricorn Still Affects Us

We’re now in our sixth year of a long term focus wherever we have late Capricorn and early Aquarius in our charts. In the first 90 days of 2020, we had a “Great Compression” of planets involving Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto all making conjunctions in the last decan of Capricorn, setting off a number of Saturn cycles, one of which will last 33 years! We then began an accelerated phase of our collective spiritual evolution which will take us from the threshold of the Age of Aquarius into the Age itself.

You can find out more about the very powerful Sun, Mercury, and Saturn's conjunctions with Pluto by revisiting The Great Compression of January 2020 – Mercury, Sun, Saturn and Pluto all Conjunct in Capricorn. That lays out the long wave patterns set into motion then.

Because of the Capricorn conjunctions set in motion in 2020, we reorganized our lives wherever we have late Capricorn in our charts. These cycles will impact all of us for some time to come. Especially with three Jupiter conjunctions with Pluto that year, it’s easy to see that for better or worse things were “expansively purified.”

When Mars conjuncted Saturn at 1 Aquarius on March 31, 2020, it set a cycle into motion which began to expand into a global system at the December 2020 Grand Mutation on the same degree. That Jupiter/Saturn conjunction launched both a new 20 year Aquarian cycle AND a new 200 year era of Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions in Air signs. That means less materialism than the past 200 years, with more focus on our commonality and ability to share ideas over the next 200.

Saturn in Aquarius led us to understand a more timeless role to play to help create a better world. Since then we have deepened with Saturn in Pisces. Now we’re seeing the future before one last look back in the Autumn and early Winter. That’s when we’ll finish our quest of asking “What is our purpose? What do I need to do to fulfill the ideal of that purpose?”

Chiron in Aries

Chiron involves mentoring or being mentored, assisting or being assisted. In this chart, Chiron is retrograde at 27 Aries, a degree of using imagination to reclaim “an opportunity thought lost.”

Chiron is said to help us “heal into our Higher Self” and because it recently went retrograde at 28 Aries, we are reviewing all the new developments based in our new “mental maturity and slow growth of the creative faculty” which has helped us “revise our attitudes” through “mental house cleaning.”

This continues our adventure related to Chiron’s healing and mentoring energies in the last half of Aries. We now have two major Chironic themes in play: one was set into motion when Mars conjuncted Chiron in Aries in 2024, which I explained in Mars Conjunct Chiron at 16 Aries. The other major Chironic cycle was set into motion when Chiron went stationary direct in late December, which I wrote about in Astrology Healing Cycles - Chiron Stationary Direct at 12 Aries.

So Aries continues to dominate the Mars/Chiron cycle, with a new long wave Chironic pulse added at the Jupiter/Chiron cycle which began at 15 Aries in March 2023. This began a new cycle of “the expansive healer,” “opportunities to mentor and be mentored,” and "healing and teaching through humor." The last Jupiter/Chiron conjunction happened in late Aquarius in 2009, and this one lasts through 2036 when they meet again at 17 Gemini. This is an important cycle which will help us “heal into our Higher Self” at crucial points over the next 13 years.

Summing Up - The Big Picture

The Capricorn conjunctions of early 2020 continue to condition the long wave cycles unfolding since then even as we simultaneously build a new Aquarian social-spiritual ideal. We’re now at a stage where we can claim a new part to play in the bigger picture of our spiritual journey. We are in the dawning of the Pluto in Aquarius era, with new work to be done, and on a new adventure. Enjoy the clarity of Uranus trine Pluto happening now through November. We are learning how to stabilize and express the dawning Plutonic seeds of the emerging Aquarian era, so things will be very “transitional” from now through early 2026.

Summing Up – The Immediate Picture

We are now at a major adjustment phase marking the threshold of a new era. See how everything fits, what you need to retire from, where growth is most natural, and how to give and receive information in balanced ways. This will redeem many things for those who know how to cooperate.

See the new era which has dawned since June with an eye to Saturn retrograding back into Pisces in September. Autumn will be a time to revisit “the end of the end” in a transition zone between an old way and a new life, finishing up old duties and responsibilities while preparing to embrace the new world of experience coming this Summer.

Final Thoughts

In 2020-2022, Capricorn helped us to find new forms of social power, while Aquarius took it into a much vaster context of a greater good. As you journey into the “new lands” promised by the April Jupiter conjunction with Uranus, remember enlightenment is a verb, not a noun, and our connection with the World Soul allows us to act in harmony with “All That Is.”

Due to our total immersion in Aquarian energy in 2021-2022, we’ve received innovative ideas and know who our spiritual allies are. In the past 4 years we’ve broken away, broken free, and broken through whatever used to block our flow. We approach a new cooperative era, and we’re in a time of new initiatives!

We’re still becoming more conscious of our interrelatedness within the spiritual field and moving through an immersion in a new sensitivity to the generic human condition. The new era dawning will show us that we are in fact individual sparks of Light within an infinite ocean of Light. We are not separate from any other thing, since all things are Light and therefore we are one with All.

We are still in the first years of a new 200 year era. The powerful forces being released at times may be chaotic, violent, intractable, and irrational, but there is power in our unified vision of a better future. Stay clear about what your vision is, and let go of all which prevents you from flying free with your Spiritual Brothers and Sisters into a better future. Keep the course steady despite the compressed tensions of this time, and know we’re on our way into the future together!

And now, a word from our sponsor!

Venus in Cancer has opened us to a new feeling adventure since its conjunction with Jupiter. In this chart it is quintile Mars in Libra. This will help us return to Source as we integrate on a spiritual level, and primarily affects planets we have near 26-30 Cancer, 8-12 Libra, 20-24 Sagittarius, 2-6 Pisces, and 14-18 Taurus. If you have something in these zones, or the spans which oppose these, expect unique circumstances and gifts.

Venus shows us what we like and why we like it. If you want to find your heart’s desire and joyous relationships which fulfill your Soul, please consider getting your copy of The Magic of Venus: Friendships, Soul Mates, and Twin Flames. It’s the most comprehensive book on Venus ever written, and takes a deep dive into how our Venus shapes why we like or don’t like the people and things we do, and how we can change our patterns of attraction to make future relationships more fulfilling. It explains the world of relationship from the angles of psychology, astrology, spirituality, and worldly experience.

I’ve been told it has helped people find strength to turn away from unhealthy relationships and understand how not to attract anything similar in the future. It examines the qualities in healthy relationships and friendships, and offers tips on how to create long lasting personal relationships and friendships, why Soul Mates come into our lives, and the difference between Soul Mates and our Twin Flame.

It has chapters on the qualities of each sign’s natural mate, the qualities of Venus in each sign, Venus retrograde, and how to change who we attract in the future. Written for both astrologers and lay people, it has a thousand gems to help you to more fulfilling relationships. Please consider getting your copy by going to the link above! (And when you’re done, please leave a review on Amazon, since it helps the book and all other books on astrology as well!)

See you soon with part 2, which will cover Sabian Symbols, Jones patterns, element distribution, and a whole lot more!
