This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this New Moon at 5 Cancer on June 25.

This brings the light of turning to new directions either before or after the crash of the old. We have interlocking Yods bringing multiple expansions through sacrifices.

This month jumps moves the emergent Aries energies into the world in personal ways due to the heavy Cancer influence which will dominate the next 4 weeks, As we have EIGHT planets in the signs of “self,” it’s time to take a new look at who you’ve become since last year, and be patient as you open to the new future already happening.

The span between 1-5 Cancer is about “decisions” on actional and material levels of life, and reorienting away from the past to ground the emerging Aries energies. This will give us all a chance to reconsider our course of action and change it if it needs changing. There’s seeds of healing happening even as we open to new levels of consciousness.

The Planetary Spread

In this chart, because we have 4 planets between 4 and 29 Cancer, that’s the main focus for the next 4 weeks. At this point, we have planets occupying about half of the zodiac between Aquarius around to Virgo. At this time we have planets in Aquarius, Aries, Taurus, Cancer, and Virgo.

Depending on the position of the Moon and the inner planets relative to the outer planets, different months bring us different Jones Patterns. These patterns operate their own independent influence, regardless of which planet is in which sign.

Currently, the outer planet occupied span begins with Pluto in early Aquarius, and proceeds through Saturn and Neptune in early Aries, Uranus in late Taurus and ends with Jupiter in early Cancer. (We don’t include TransPluto, since Jones didn’t use it in defining his patterns). Because we have 5 signs represented with an empty span of about 148+ degrees, we have an imperfect perfect “Bowl” Jones Pattern.

So What is a “Bowl” Jones Pattern and how does it work?

This type of spread, with all the planets occupying approximately half of the signs with an empty half opposite the occupied half, creates a “special type of conscious selfhood,” which Dr. Jones says “marks the Bowl type of temperament. He goes on to state “Fundamentally it is an extreme self-containment,” which “holds things, and a Bowl individual is one who always has something to bear.”

He goes on to state that with the Bowl, “the whole dynamic of man, his total power of achievement, arises in his instinctive realization that he is set off against a definite part of the world, that there is a complete segment of experience from which he is excluded in some subtle fashion. The Bowl not only holds something, but also places whatever it holds into relationship with a larger consideration.”

Dr. Jones continues that “the occupied segment of the Bowl horoscope reveals the activity and organization of the self, since planets are significant according to their place by sign and house, and the unoccupied segment becomes a challenge to existence, or the need and emptiness to which the native must direct his attention. The outstanding characteristic of the Bowl temperament is its marked sense of what is self-contained in contrast with what the self cannot hold, and this take an everyday form in an advocacy of some cause, the furtherance of a mission, an introspective concern over the purpose of experience.”

He concludes his explanation of how the pattern works with “The Bowl native always has something to give to his fellows, whether literally or psychologically, whether constructively or vindictively, because his orientation to the world arises from division; that is, frustration and uncertainty. The leading planets, determined in exactly the same way as for the Locomotive pattern, give a point of application, and shows where and how the native seeks to carry out his mission or gain his everyday justification for existence.”

He brings up another important point of analysis, as he states “the leading planet is of secondary importance in the Bowl pattern, unless it is found in a strong opposition or cosmic cross. The fundamental attack on the problems of life by the Bowl individual is indicated more significantly by the tilt or house-position of the Bowl-segment.”

He concludes this section by stating “the Bowl character is definitely more self-expending, or self-seeking, and more practically interested in what things mean and what they are. It continually throws the emphasis from the signs into the houses. It a general way the Bowl tends to ‘scoop up’ things and initiate experience when the position of the leading planet ranges from the fourth cusp, up and over the ascendant, to the Midheaven cusp, and then inclines to “capture” things or consummate various phases of life when the leading planet is placed similarly from the tenth angle down over the descendant to the nadir.”

Pluto at 4 Aquarius is the leading planet on a degree of “A Hindu healer.” This means that as we enter opportunity or experience, we will go through major purifications related to the collective Aquarian seeds being sprouted. Some will experience life changing events which involve a revelation of some sort of latent healing power, or offered an opportunity to “consciously utilize divine potency.”

This entry to the Bowl tells us we are all being exposed to the seeds of an inner divine potency if we choose to sprout them. Pluto in Aquarius encourages us to share ideas in a spirit of fellowship and strengthen inner magnetism and external bonds with your spiritual Sisters and Brothers.

With Mars at 5 Virgo closing the Bowl, we’ll finish experience with a sense of awakening to a different way of using Mars more practically. It is on a degree of “constructive imagination as it reveals unconscious realms of being” and “creative fantasy.” So we begin experience with the power of healing which ends with seeing a different way.

This leads with actional contribution, and closes with actional characterization. Because the leading edge is Aquarian Air, approach experience with a sense of vision, cooperation, the uniqueness of each part of the whole, and willingness to rise to an occasion. Because the closing edge is Virgo Earth, by the time you’re done with a given experience, you’ll have a new discernment about using force efficiently.

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon

A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following month will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at 5 Cancer, and it is said that the first third (decan) of any sign deals with the physical, material, and actional levels of life, and being the first decan of Cancer it has a sub-influence of Cancer/Moon with an added dose of Venus. With the dispositors, this is a time of opening to new spontaneity and a sense of our value as we move through “karmic adjustments.” While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.

The Sabian symbol for the 5th degree of Cancer is “An automobile wrecked by a train.” In the original Jones notes published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this symbolizes “individual man is brought to account for his obligations to society,” “curbed recklessness,” and “tragic escape from emptiness.”

In The Astrological Mandala, he states this degree is about "the tragic results which are likely to occur when the individual’s will pits itself carelessly against the power of the collective will of society.” He says the auto “symbolizes individualized consciousness eager to pursue its own course of action regardless of how it may conflict the the collective consciousness of the community (the train).

He continues that these “individual and relatively anarchistic or law-defying attempts are bound to fail.” He also says that “most of the time man learns his lessons through relatively destructive experiences,” and that this symbol is one of “Karmic Readjustment.” He states this degree falls in the Span of Expansion, Act of Stabilization, and is the fulfillment degree of the Scene of Decision on the Actional level.

Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, says this is a degree of “the irresistible power of completion inherent in the very make-up of (our) world whenever a sequence of events once is set in motion.” He offers this is about “the concept of control, or the assurance that it is not necessary to continue any given action to the point of self-cancellation.”

He continues “the ultimate obligation of the individual is to himself, and not to the narrow and momentary direction of circumstances. He gives us the keyword DISPERSION, and goes on to state that when operating positively, the degree is “a special genius for a creative reorganization of all experience.”

So the theme of the next month involves changing course in some way, or seeing how we have escaped or are escaping some sort of potential wreckage. This is about completion and our ability to culminate a reorienting action on our own terms. Here an element of the past comes to an end and culminates a reorienting action on our own terms.

Important Aspects

Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. Partile separating aspects show what’s been going on in the Now. This section covers only forming and partile separating aspects. Out of sign aspects are indicated by (oos).

The Lunation is quindecile Mercury, semisquare Venus, sextile Mars, conjunct Jupiter, decile Uranus, square Neptune and triseptile Pluto; Mercury is 68+ away from Venus (its widest distance), decile Mars, quindecile Jupiter, trine Saturn (oos), sextile Uranus, trine Neptune (oos) and opposed Pluto (oos); Venus is biseptile Mars, semisquare Jupiter, conjunct Uranus, and tredecile Pluto; and the Sun makes the same aspects as the Moon.

Outer planet aspects feature Mars sextile Jupiter, triseptile Saturn and Neptune, and quincunx Pluto; Jupiter is square Saturn, decile Uranus, square Neptune, and quincunx Pluto; Saturn is sextile Uranus (oos) and conjunct Neptune; Uranus is sextile Neptune (oos), and Neptune’s finally again sextile Pluto for the first time in 30 years!

This month the friction is provided by 3 semisquares, 4 squares, 0 sesquisquare, and 4 quincunxes. While squares challenge “right action” at a turning point of a cycle, the semisquares are more about internal decisions and movement with personal inner crises, both public and private, which we must deal with.

Sesquisquares on the other hand create friction, agitation, and irritation in our world that involves others. In my experience sesquisquares are not necessarily associated with times of crisis, but they do seem to be times of no rest and spurs to act that may be inconvenient and aggravating. They definitely aren’t calm! And quincunxes force adjustments and sacrifices.

Special Configurations in Evolutionary Astrology

This month we have 3 special evolutionary configurations, 2 involving Mars, Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto.

1) Mercury is trine Saturn and Neptune and opposes Pluto. This is very favorable for anticipating things to come, with a need to focus on the positives rather than the limiting conditions, and be careful of what you believe you hear. This is a herald of things to come in late July when the Sun makes the same aspects, and primarily affects planets and points we have in the early degrees of the Fire and Air signs, and offers opportunities to attune to the new collective atmosphere while seeing to the core of any matter.

2) We have a power Yod of the spiritual heavyweights Saturn and Neptune both sextile Pluto with all making quincunxes to Mars. This builds productively via the sextile and focuses through Mars. 3) We also have a power Yod of the Lunation and Jupiter sextile Mars with all quincunx Pluto, making that transformational planet the focus of the configuration. This builds productively via the personality planets in sextile and focuses through transpersonal Pluto. We'll also give a nod to Venus biseptile Mars, which will put us at points of choice and change where we have Aries, Taurus, Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio. Zones most affected are 19-23 Taurus, 11-15 Cancer, 3-7 Virgo, 24-28 Libra, 15-19 Sagittarius, 6-10 Aquarius, and 27 Pisces-1 Aries. Expect turning points in those areas of your life if you have a planet in one of these zones.

Explaining Harmonics

Aspects in the same series are considered to be various stages of “harmonics” for each series.

The novile (9th harmonic), septile (7th harmonic) and elftile (11th harmonic) series all feature spiritual aspects. All novile series (9th harmonic) aspects indicate things which need to be put on the shelf for a while, or that which has been waiting can now move forward. They represent gestative energies that can lead to great spiritual realizations. Septile series aspects represent forks in the road of destiny, while the 11th harmonic elftile series indicate that faith is required to deal with transcending some dualities, issues and points of evolution where we must make a leap of faith to attain a form of mastery over that type of duality. This series tests our faith. Both the 7th and 11th series involve non-rational aspect values, bringing an element of irrationality in behavior and circumstances.

The quintile and biquintile (5th harmonic) and related 10th (decile and tredecile), 15th (quindecile), and 20th harmonic (vigintile) aspects are all specialization aspects. Element Balance

This month shows another imbalanced distribution. This month the 10 traditional planets occupy 5 signs. We have 2 planets in Fire (inspiration and warmth), 3 planet in Earth (practical grounding), 1 in Air (relatedness and communicating), and 4 in Water (feelings and experiencing).

Air and Earth are “cool” elements, while Fire and Water are “hot” elements. With this distribution, it’s slightly more hot than cool, with an emphasis on the practical and feeling levels of life. With so much Earth and Water, it should be good for making bricks but avoid getting stuck in the mud of insecurity or thinking what’s passing is anything you need to hold on to.

The current sequence at present of Deciding, Feeling, and Thinking

We’ve been through several different sequences over the past few months. There are six patterns, and each has their strengths and weaknesses. This begins a new pattern. For now, as a process of moving through events, the most effective “firing sequence” for approaching life and experience as things some fall apart involves beginning activity with feeling, then deciding and acting, followed by thinking.

This pattern leads with feelings, and then makes decisions and acts based in those feelings. While it is tempting to move back into more feeling after the actions, after we make our decisions and/or act, it will be important to get new information to come to a new vision or understanding. Once we get the right view or understanding, then a new feeling-experience will naturally arise that points the way to the next action.

When you are moved by a feeling or experience, it will naturally lead to decisions on the basis of those feeling experiences, which should be followed by a search for new information, new ideas, new interpretations, and new views. We’ll be “feeling our way” into new experiences, then deciding and acting on the basis of those feelings. After a decision or action, then we’ll have to find newer, more up to date information, facts, and understanding so we can get a new vision.

This patterns learns and teaches through anecdotes, seeing how others handled things practically, or how you handed things practically in the past. Let your thinking and communicating and envisioning follow your actions, and let your feelings follow a new understanding, a new perception, or a new view.

If you’re wondering what to do, go to your feelings and sit with them being objective and compassionate. Once you have “retreated to compassion,” then you can find the fact you need to make a decision which will lead you to your vision or understanding which will open your next feeling response.

Summing Up

This New Moon will bring adjustments and more adjustments, so sacrifice whatever you have to of the past to be free to move into new directions and allegiances. With such strong Cancer AND Aries, stay balanced, be patient, get organized, see the broad sweep of the creative process, and find a sense of humor as you see the bigger picture of what’s emerging.

The next four weeks throw us into a new direction, with a lot of productivity even as some things squeeze us, forcing out old life materials and attitudes. We now turn a corner and can reconsider options and alternatives as we stand at the threshold of a new cycle of experience. This month we get a good look at what’s coming in 2026, but because Saturn and Neptune will RX back into Pisces and Uranus will RX back into Taurus this Autumn, we’ll still be between the old and the new, and will be until February 2026 when we move through a time portal.

Heal, serve as best you can with patience, understanding, initiative and good will, and if you hit a fork in the road, “take it!” (to quote a legendary baseball sage). This is a time to shift and change, with tremendous heart power about to explode in July and August..

Purify, love without inhibitions, and enjoy fellowship “in an effort to make life freer and happier.” This is a time of understanding that applied faith coupled with knowledge can help you find the hidden resources you need. Enjoy the Summer Fire and Air energies, since you could find yourself uplifted in sudden or unexpected ways. Feel the lightness of your unique evolutionary dance through space and time. We’re all moving from the interpersonal to the transpersonal level of focus.

We have been moving into a new life or a new way of living the past year and a half, and now have the understanding we need to embrace a new role, see a new archetype, or find a new way to express our understanding on the stage of life. For better or worse, we’ve all fulfilled a dream (or a nightmare!) and now stand facing an entirely new vista of possibilities on the world stage.

Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend

Because Saturn now begins to exert its understanding and authority in Aries, the realm of direct self-initiated action, it is showing us the way forward. Because it’s ruled by Mars in Virgo, it will be more practical than it was with Jupiter in Gemini. We have begun a restructuring of spiritual force wherever we have the first 3 degrees of Aries in our chart. Saturn has taught us a Master Class in compassion and forgiveness practices and now it’s time to take the initiative in some way.

Making friends with our inner Saturn is the most important thing we can do to fulfill our spiritual destiny. The Long View

In 2020 we entered a transition phase in human history. While we will be functioning within the Capricorn cycles we began then, we also have begun an era unknown to humanity since the 13th and 14th centuries. Even then, we were still in the depth of the Age of Pisces, so the awakening of new ideas then were relative to the old era, whereas what’s coming involves wave after wave of Aquarian energies, pushing us to the coming Great Age emerging in the second half of this century.

The long wave Aquarian pulses were initially set into motion by the Mars conjunct Saturn at 1 Aquarius on March 31, 2020, marking the initiation of archetypal Aquarian preliminary structures offered by Saturn. The promise and potential of the new Aquarian pulse then began to expand into a greater social and cultural vision beginning at the Jupiter conjunction with Saturn, the Grand Mutation of the Solstice also at 1 Aquarius. So we have 20 years of Aquarian energies set into motion by that conjunction!

All Aquarian transits and conjunctions in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 have given a new impetus and new expression to the Aquarian structures which took shape in 2021. Each transit strengthens the Pluto in Aquarius “generation” of the 21st century which lasts until 2043. As there will be a Jupiter conjunction with Pluto at 15 Aquarius in 2033, we’ll see the “expansion of the Angels of the Age of Aquarius” at that time.

2021 opened a new adventure for all of us, and the “metamorphosis” we went through showed us what the coming Age of Aquarius is about. 2022 helped us remember we are Beings of Light, a Superstar shining the Light of our Eternal Love into our world. We’re now expanding our spiritual knowledge, understanding, and effective forms of service, and have entered a new phase with Mars in a new Sun/Mars conjunction cycle.

New groups of Spiritual communities have formed since 2021, and are being given a boost this year. Those which are Aquarian in nature will be “lifted on the wings of angels” in 2025. Trust the process. Revolution is in the air! And when you find things and people of eternal worth, value them with all your heart.
