Who’s Really Creating? How Human Input Gives AI Its Heart

By Tyrell Johnson, Special to CrystalWind.ca

There’s a common idea floating around that AI is out here writing stories and making art on its own.

In reality, every piece of AI-generated content starts with a person—someone with a story to tell, a feeling to express, or a vision they want to bring to life. AI doesn’t just generate content out of thin air; it responds to what it’s given.

Think of AI like a ghostwriter or an editor. When someone wants to write a memoir, they might sit down with another person and share their memories, their struggles, their happiest days. The ghostwriter listens for the emotions and the big moments, then shapes those into words. The heart of the story still belongs to the person who lived it. The writing just helps it shine.

AI works in much the same way. It’s not inventing warmth, love, or spiritual meaning on its own. But if you give it a prompt that’s full of passion—if you share your hopes, your heartbreak, your sense of wonder—AI can help you put those feelings into words. The emotion seeps in through the details you share, the stories you choose, the way you describe what matters to you.

The difference is subtle but important. AI, by itself, is just a tool. It can’t feel joy, or nostalgia, or awe. But it can reflect the emotions you bring to it. If you write a prompt full of warmth and longing, the AI can help shape those feelings into something that reads true. If your vision is hopeful or spiritual, the AI can take your words and help organize them, polish them, amplify the feeling that’s already there.

So when people say AI-generated articles can feel a little flat or cold, they’re not wrong—but that’s not the whole story. If you feed AI a prompt that’s empty, you’ll get emptiness back. But if you start with something real—something honest, something heartfelt—the tool can help you say what’s hard to put into words on your own.

At the end of the day, the spark still comes from people. AI can help shape it, arrange it, and even amplify it, but it can’t invent it. The warmth, the love, the spirit—they begin with us. AI just helps us share them.
