The Incredible Value and Power of Silence

In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long and arduous quest after truth. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Lately I’ve become super-sensitive to all the noise in our world—the lack of silence, even the fear of silence. So many folks struggle with silence—they don’t know how to “do” it. Of course, I realize it’s a challenge when you have a family, a job and all the other daily experiences that do not encourage silence.
I live alone. So it’s easy to find silence. Though I still get interruptions from phone calls, emails, visitors, etc. I meditate twice a day every day. I can’t imagine my life without meditation. It enables me to enter into the silence daily. The benefits—physical, mental, emotional and spiritual—are amazing.
I’m not a loner, nor am I anti-social. I love people. But I also love silence.
This week we’re again featuring another message by my dear brother, Ted Murray. As you know, Ted publishes Messages from the Heart, a free daily service that will inspire and uplift you. It’s a great way to start off your day.
In this message, Ted talks about the value and power of silence. And he presents some questions we all would do well to ask ourselves.
Messages from the Heart for August 25, 2017
How much do you value silence in your life? For most people, the idea of being silent for more than an hour (except for sleeping) would be a real challenge. Would you ever consider a 10-day silent retreat where you eliminate all external stimuli and just have your own soul to communicate with? Suppose you were a castaway with only a volleyball or perhaps a tiger to keep you company. Would you be able to bear the silence of your own thoughts?
Perhaps silence is one of the key ingredients missing from our society and most of our lives. Is it possible to get to know yourself deeply without being with yourself in silence for extended periods? Can you communicate directly with the Creator without staying quiet long enough to hear the whispers in your ear? Silence is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself as well as share with others. Why not make it a regular part of your day and see what insights you receive?
Love & Light,
Ted

This 3-minute video, titled Consider this…The Power of Silence, features Bishop Richard Malone of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, New York. Bishop Malone gives us some great insights into the power of silence, and how to practice it. (I grew up in the Diocese of Buffalo, and so this video is a personal favorite of mine.)
In the early 1980s, John took a spiritual development course and was introduced to his first spirit guide, Lydia. After Lydia arrived, three other guides also came to him: Archangel Michael, Tamarra, and Chief Joseph. Today these are John’s four main guides.
Besides his four main ones, John has various other guides. The entire group is really a multidimensional collective consciousness. John refers to the entire group simply as “Spirit.”
