It’s finally official, almost. Two months ago Tesla told the world they had developed a battery to could power your entire house, and just a couple of weeks ago Elon Musk teased that the company would unveil a new non-automotive product at their April 30 event. Now, in an email to investors, Tesla has confirmed that they will unveil not only the game-changing battery for one’s home, but also a utility-scale battery at the end of this month.
According to Bloomberg, Jeffrey Evanson, Tesla’s head of investor relations, said in an email to investors that the company “will explain the advantages of our solutions and why past battery options were not compelling,” at the April 30 event. Such a battery would be a huge boon for energy, as it’s designed to charge at night, when utility companies charge less for energy. This arrangement could help homeowners save thousands by taking advantage of lower nighttime energy rates to collect power for use during the daytime hours.
No word on how much the battery will cost, or how it will look—other than “attractive”—those details are being saved for the April 30 reveal. The hope is that Tesla’s house battery will be priced in such a way that, after the initial investment in the battery and its installation, it will pay for itself in a short time due to the energy cost savings. That remains to be seen.
