A Love Song for Pachamama

A Love Song for Pachamama

A Love Song for Pachamama

She brings us to edges,
cliffs, riverbanks,
precipices

and gorge.

Shows us wonder
under every rock
in every bog, with
every bird, bat,
wasp and
platypus

as
we
care
to look.

To see.

She raises heights,
far reaches we must
study, train, dare to
scale, to approach,
inspired by their
vista rather
than their
conquest.

Depths so inky
and distant and
pressured, their
bottoms are
as yet untold.

She provides us
fields of flowers wild,
of fruit and seed,
the milk and
honey of
plenty.

Of life.

Her nourishment
is color, rainfall,
dewdrops
and sap.

Her forests
breathe the
breath we
take so
surely
and
oft for
granted.

Her gentleness,
her fierceness,
her salt and
bitter have
much to
teach—
range,
dimension,
complexity,
diversity,

wholeness.

Her gifts are great,
her benefaction
without strings,
save the silky
filaments of
the milkweed
and orb spider.

Heaven
made flesh,
she holds beauty
up to our gaze
every second
we draw air…

the light
knitting the
shadows just
so; the breeze,
the storm and
its ballast, the
violet pushing
through what’s
hard to bring
such softness.

She loves us
more than we
can ever know
and trusts us
with her
very
life.

Spurring us to
re-cognize that
we, too, are giants
in a land, a world of
giants, whatever
the dimensions
we’ve trained
our eyes
to see.

Living art,
all — all
that is.

For though
she is made
of stone, she is
very much
alive.

What could we
possibly give her
in return for all
she gives us?

Nothing

but
love.

Happy, holy Earth Day,
one and all!
