Heart

Heart

Heart

It has the word
“art’ within it,
this vessel
flowing life.

Love being
the true art
life forms in
and through
the living.

Forms as varied and vast
as the actual heart,
if we could see it
as it actually is
within each
of us.

No two
the same.

Nor the perfectly
symmetrical depictions
used to symbolize this
vital instrument

keeping
our beat.

No, it ranges in size,
contour, shape, elastic
in its fibers, tissues,
able to hold worlds
in its chambers.

Space, space
here to arrive
and keep
arriving
to—

through.

A hot air balloon
floating the high
heavens of
beyond.

Propelled,
lifted, by that
which is lighter
than earth’s air.

Were it not for
the ballast tied to
its rails to stabilize,
descend, it might
never come
down to
earth,

so light
its wisp.

Were we
to drop the bags,
the weighing down,
where might our
hearts range
now free?

Perhaps as we
shed this sand used to
manipulate flight, touchdown,
we might find a new place,
just beyond the scope
of our landing field.

A place that
only the heart’s
compass
knows.

Keeps.

A place beyond
placing, beyond
coordinates of
longitude and
latitude, of
altitude.

Turpitude.

A place attuned
to the imaging we
have confined to canvas,
to page, now coloring
our progress as
we wander.

Meeting other
imaginings
wandering.

Making love
the basket we
sail into
up, up
and
away —

Casting us adrift
like the down of
a dandelion.

Where we
end up?

The
beginning.
