Whispers of an Angel: A Journey to Find the Perfect Feather

Whispers of an Angel: A Journey to Find the Perfect Feather

A black and white feather is no easy find.

When I was a little girl, I would often dilly-dally when walking home from school.

We lived in Ballymun at the time and it was a fair walk. There was a school bus, but I always preferred walking.

On this particular day, I wandered into one of the fields and started picking some wildflowers.

I sat down on a clump of grass to spread my flowers out on the ground, organizing them in bunches of white daisies, yellow cowslips, and a purple kind of wildflower.

I started to talk to my guardian angel. Actually, I was giving out.

"Well, I asked you for a feather," I sighed loudly. "Three days now have passed and I have not found one feather anywhere, not even in this field!"

I waited for a minute, feeling rather annoyed and impatient.

"Are you not talking to me?" I asked my guardian angel sharply.

There was no reply. I suddenly felt very guilty.

"I'm sorry about giving out about the feather, but I would really love one to go with these wildflowers. A black and white feather would be lovely,"

I paused, hesitating for a moment.

"I don't think you are listening to me," I whispered to my angel.

I sorted out my flowers and got up from the grass, making my way across the field to the far side. There were no other angels around me.

I knew my guardian angel was with me, but I was not feeling very happy with my angel. I had not received the feather I'd asked for.

As I walked across the fields, I stopped to pick the odd flower every now and then.

My growing bushel of wildflowers was becoming too big for my small hands, and I dropped some of the flowers by accident. As I bent down to pick them up, my guardian angel's glowing hands moved to cover mine.

"You're here!" I exclaimed.

"Yes, of course I'm here," my guardian angel replied. "Lorna, do you really want a feather?"

"Yes," I answered.

"You do know I can't give you one of my own."

"Of course not," I laughed.

"I'll have to get a bird to leave the feather for you," my guardian angel said. "Lorna, walk over to the big tree over there."

"Okay," I said.

Just before I reached the tree, I found a feather laying in among the grass.

I jumped for joy. It was black and white!

"How did you do that?" I asked my guardian angel. "A black and white feather is no easy find."

"I know, Lorna," my angel replied. "I knew you would ask again today for a black and white feather. Yesterday there was a jackdaw that had a mixture of black and white in some of its feathers, and it lost one so it could be left here for you."

I felt giddy with excitement.

"Thank you!" I squealed to my angel.

At the same time, I was hoping this didn't mean the bird would be left feeling a bit cold without its feather.

Hearing my thoughts and worries, my guardian angel said, "Don't worry, Lorna. Another feather is already growing in its place. You don't have to concern yourself about the bird feeling cold."

"Thank you," I said, holding up my feather in the sunlight to admire it.

Love and blessings to you all,
Lorna

Lorna Byrne is an international number 1 bestselling author (her last two books have gone straight in at #1 on the UK Sunday Times Chart) with more than a million readers around the world. Her books, Angels in my Hair, Stairways to Heaven, A Message of Hope from the Angels and Love from Heaven have been translated into 30 languages.
Lorna has been seeing angels since she was a baby. Very unusually, she sees angels physically with as much clarity as the rest of us see people and she sees them every day. This diminutive, soft-spoken, uneducated Irish woman who did not talk about what she was seeing until seven years ago, says she has no idea why she can see angels when others can’t, adding that she is just an ordinary person.
