This Week in Cosmic Energy: June 23 to 29, 2025

This Week in Cosmic Energy: June 23 to 29, 2025

NEW LUNAR CYCLE: The Sun and the Moon have their monthly rendezvous this week, opening the door to a new lunar cycle. The New Moon occurs at 3:31 a.m. PDT on Wednesday, June 25, when the two luminaries align at 04°07' Cancer.

By nature, Cancer is empathetic, nurturing, intuitive, and sensitive to the needs and moods of others. These higher qualities are strongly emphasized at the lunation with the Sun and Moon tightly conjunct Jupiter (within one degree). The Great Planet, in keeping with its immense size, always magnifies whatever it touches.

The New Moon is also in close harmonious aspect (sextile) to Mars in Virgo. This aspect enhances self-confidence and courage, inspiring us to take the initiative and perhaps to take new risks.

We are also likely to see the shadow side of Cancer at the time of the lunation, especially with outer planets Neptune, Saturn, and Pluto in hard aspect to the New Moon and to Jupiter. Disorientation or disillusionment are possible with idealistic Neptune, whereas realistic Saturn's influence adds a serious tone and may increase fear or a fatalistic attitude. Meanwhile, Pluto can manifest as power struggles that require us to be very self-aware, alert to any ways in which we act compulsively out of fear and a need to control.

THE CANCER EFFECT: Cancerian energies are amplified throughout the coming week and beyond: the Sun will exactly align with Jupiter this Tuesday, the New Moon occurs on Wednesday, and the Sun and Jupiter remain close traveling companions in the sign of the Crab until the second week of July.

Sensitive Cancer often feels quite vulnerable in the world, and thus can be very protective or defensive. Just like crabs in a tide pool, Cancer tends to react strongly to perceived threats, quickly hiding under a rock (flight), defending itself with its claws (fight), or being immobilized by fear (freeze). Soft-hearted Cancer can also find it hard to be objective, easily taking on the emotional states of others, including those of the collective.

With Cancerian energies heightened for the next couple of weeks, it is important to have good self-care routines, to ground ourselves energetically, to not take things personally, and to remember our boundaries. Just as a crab has a shell to protect its soft body, we benefit by knowing what emotions ours are to process and what we may be picking up from others. Without good boundaries in place, we can feel overwhelmed and more readily go into flight-fight-freeze mode.

ASPECTS THIS WEEK: Here are my brief interpretations of this week's most important aspects, day by day:

Monday

Sun square Neptune: People could be extra sensitive today or tend to take things personally. With intuition and the creative imagination heightened, this aspect might be helpful for artistic or spiritual endeavors but is less supportive of activities that require mental focus and attention to practical details.

Mercury square Eris: The mind is restless and impatient today. Some may quickly become irritated or defensive, and speak without considering the effects of their words.

Venus semisquare Jupiter: It is tempting to overindulge today, to go overboard in expressing affection or in spending money.

Jupiter quincunx Pluto: This aspect represents a longer-term moral dilemma as we weigh the desire to protect and preserve against our awareness that the world is going through major, inexorable, and necessary change. Challenges to our belief systems can result in some being defensive, self-righteous, and controlling.

Tuesday

Mercury square Chiron: We might feel insecure about our ability to communicate or fear that our words will not be heard and therefore do not matter.

Sun quincunx Pluto and conjunct Jupiter: While a sense of optimism can be enhanced, we are also navigating some intense emotions today.

Wednesday

New Moon: The Sun and Moon align today at 3:31 a.m. PDT, when both luminaries are at 04°07' Cancer.

Thursday

Mercury sextile Uranus: Our minds are receptive to new ideas today. Intuition is heightened and we could receive information from unusual or unexpected sources.

Sun sextile Mars: We have more confidence in our ability to solve problems with this aspect and are willing to take risks as needed.

Mercury enters Leo: Mercury will be in expressive Leo for an extended period this year (June 26 to September 2), due to the Messenger Planet going retrograde on July 18. During these weeks, people tend to be more confident, colorful, and dramatic in their communications. The mind is creative and drawn to story-telling. With Mercury in the sign of the Lion, some people could roar more, listen less, and use words to intimidate.

Friday

Mercury sextile Sedna, Mercury trine Saturn: The mind is practical and rational today. We are able to find creative solutions to problems. Decisions are based on what will be most productive long-term.

Saturday

Mercury trine Neptune: Intuition and the creative imagination influence our thinking and our communications. Some may be inspired to write poetry or to use their visualization abilities in other forms of artistic expression.

Sunday

Mercury opposite Pluto: Words can be used to intimidate or control. Verbal debates, dramatic speeches, and heightened propaganda are possible, requiring that we use discernment in what we accept as true.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: You have an underlying optimism, courage, and confidence this year. A positive attitude will serve you well and help you rise above any challenges. Throughout the year, you will be learning more about how to use your innate sensitivity, intuition, and empathy while also maintaining your boundaries and staying true to your Self. Some relationships may go through an adjustment period as you work with these themes. (Solar Return Sun semisquare Venus, sextile Mars, conjunct Jupiter, square Saturn, square Neptune)

In peace, love, and gratitude,

Pam
