NEPTUNIAN TIMES: The planet Neptune is virtually at a standstill now. It entered the second degree of Aries on June 8, will station retrograde at 02°11° of the sign this Friday, July 4, and will not depart that degree until the second week of August.

This means that throughout this two-month period—and especially this week and next—we are all working with concentrated Neptunian energies and themes. 

It seems contradictory to use the word "concentrated" when describing Neptune's energies, because the planet is quite ethereal and tends to dissolve rather than consolidate whatever it touches. As a transpersonal planet, Neptune's task is to remind us that we are spiritual beings, souls that are choosing temporarily to focus our energies into physicality. 

Toward this end, Neptune assists us in transcending this earthly plane of existence, lifting our gaze to mountaintops and beyond. With Neptune's help, we engage in spiritual practices such as meditation and conscious dreaming. We lose track of time through artistic, creative endeavors that transport us into altered states. When Neptune's influence is heightened, we may in fact feel very "other-worldly," and find it harder to focus on practical matters.

Neptune is associated with the spirit realms, dreams, intuition, the imagination, idealism, and visions. As the planetary representative of Divine Love, it encourages us to be compassionate and forgiving. 

The shadow potentials of Neptune are mostly due to taking its positive attributes to a negative extreme. Idealism can become naiveté, an inability to see reality clearly, and a tendency to be easily deceived. The desire to transcend life's dramas can manifest as escapism, addiction, and what is known as "spiritual bypassing." And sensitivity can cloud our understanding of what unconditional love truly is, so that we martyr ourselves or attempt to rescue others whose soul journey actually requires that they learn self-reliance and personal responsibility.

NEPTUNE "SYMPTOMS": As we work with magnified Neptunian energies this week and next, we could find that our intuition and psychic impressions are stronger than usual, and that our dreams and imaginings are especially vivid. Our creative muse or loved ones in other dimensions might feel very close. Our hearts may be quite open, making it easier to be selfless, to feel compassion, and to forgive and let go of the past.

On the other hand, we could also feel very vulnerable and even overwhelmed during this time, and find ourselves using escapism or addictions to avoid reality. We might experience confusion, as if we are moving through fog and cannot see clearly. We will also want to observe where we might be seeing reality only through rose-colored glasses, ignoring red flags and setting ourselves up for disappointment. These less palatable symptoms might be strongest for those who have planets or points in their natal chart between one and three degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn), since Neptune is in hard aspect to those points.

ASPECTS THIS WEEK: Here are my brief interpretations of this week's most important aspects, day by day: 

Monday

Tuesday

No major aspects are exact today.

Wednesday

Venus semisquare Ceres: This can be a challenging day for some relationships, due to conflicts between a desire for stability and a need to be independent. 

Thursday

No major aspects are exact today.

Friday

Venus conjunct Uranus: Relationship breakthroughs and breakdowns are possible today. This alignment tests our ability to be fully ourselves with others and could actually manifest as a new, perhaps unusual, more authentic relationship. Expectations of loved ones must be very flexible, since some may act impulsively or need their space. Upsets can occur if someone has been playing a role instead of being true to themselves.

Sun square Ceres: Family relationships may experience some challenges. The urge to care for and protect loved ones could interpreted as "smothering instead of mothering" if they feel their independence is not being honored.

Venus enters Gemini: Venus will be in Gemini from July 4 to 30 this year. During this time, we value intelligent conversations and may be attracted to someone's wit, their ability to speak eloquently, or even to their tone of voice. We enjoy having a variety of friends and diverse social activities, and may become interested in new creative or artistic endeavors. We might easily become bored by routines or interactions that are not mentally stimulating. 

Neptune stations retrograde: Neptune will be retrograde from July 4 to December 10 this year. Due to its subtle nature, we may not notice a significant difference between the months when the planet is direct and retrograde, but we should feel its transcendental influence very strongly for a week on either side of its station dates.

Saturday 

Venus conjunct Sedna: Relationships may go through a process of transformation now, or we may experience a process of death and rebirth through the experience of a relationship. This aspect brings us into greater alignment with our soul's purpose and invites us to claim our spiritual destiny, especially within the context of relationship.

Mars sesquiquadrate Eris: People could be critical and demanding today, becoming easily irritated when situations are outside of their control.

Sunday

Venus sextile Saturn, Venus sextile Neptune: We are able to be both realistic and idealistic in relationships now. Conversations with loved ones are serious but also hopeful.

Sun semisquare Uranus: People may be surprisingly emotional, feel restless or nervous, or act strangely or impulsively under this influence.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: An underlying optimism serves you well this year, helping you be open to new experiences and adventures, and encouraging you to take risks. You may surprise yourself with your willingness to step outside of your comfort zone. At the same time, your innate intuition and empathy are even stronger than usual. Relationships with family members and other loved ones may need to be reconfigured as you get in touch with a need to be more independent and to feel free from restrictions.
