The Council: Love and Marriage - Part 6

The Council: Love and Marriage - Part 6

In part 6 William LePar’s spiritual source, The Council, attempts to differentiate between religious commitment and spiritual commitment.

Questioner:  Yes, and this is the second question as far as the two types of commitment that we can have.  First, is the commitment to each other, and then would come our commitment to our own spiritual upbringing.  Now, a couple could be married and they are both committed to their upbringing till death do us part.  Yet, somewhere along the line you have both lost interest in each other. You cannot dissolve the marriage because of your commitment to your religion.  Where really do you stand on your commitment there when you are committed to your religious upbringing but not each other?

The Council:  All commitments will run through dry periods.  It is part of the growth cycle, part of the awareness process, part of the growth process.  If an individual or if two individuals have lost interest in each other, then they must go back and discover why.  If they unfortunately made the mistake of making a commitment purely on physical things, physical attractions, it is their problem and they are stuck with it.  There is very few accepted spiritual reasons, and we are not talking about religious reasons, religion we are not addressing, we are talking about spiritual concepts, there are very few situations that will allow for a commitment to be dissolved until it has been fully experienced.  Do you understand?

Q:  I still find it hard to distinguish between the religious commitment and the spiritual commitment.  I thought they run real close together.

C:  Religious commitment is simply a formal process or a ceremony. You must be committed spiritually before you undergo something such as that.  What makes the commitment?  Your religious ceremonies or the soul and heart of the individuals involved?  It is the soul and heart.  There are societies that have no religious ceremonies for a marriage.  Their marriage is just as binding as one that has a fancy ceremony, full of pomp and circumstances.  It is not the ceremony; it is the commitment of the heart.  But you are bound by man's law to follow certain prescribed situations.  We are not saying that those are wrong or should be done away with.  We are saying that once you have realized that there is a commitment of the heart and of the soul, then you must go through the formal rules and regulations of man.  Does that answer the question?

Next – In the final part of this series soul mates are discussed.
