This Week’s Cosmic Energy: September 1 to 7, 2025

This Week’s Cosmic Energy: September 1 to 7, 2025

CONVERGENCE ZONE: We have a very eventful week ahead of us, with several significant planetary events happening concurrently.

The cumulative effect of their energies will no doubt make these days memorable. Here's a brief synopsis:

Powerful Pluto has just stepped "out of bounds" by declination, intensifying its overall impact on our collective lives. Saturn retrogrades into introspective Pisces on September 1. The influence of transformational Sedna is heightened as the dwarf planet comes to a standstill on September 2. A contentious, opinionated, and impulsive Mars-Jupiter square perfects on September 4. Surprising Uranus is especially strong as it comes to a standstill on September 5. And, the Total Lunar Eclipse/Full Moon in Pisces reaches totality on September 7.

PLUTO OUT OF BOUNDS: As the planets in our solar system orbit the Sun, they generally follow the plane of the ecliptic—the invisible line that the Sun traces as it appears to travel around Earth. However, as the planets move through space, their actual paths can sometimes be a few degrees above or below the ecliptic. When a planet gets more than 23°32' North or South of the ecliptic, it is said to be "out of bounds" by declination. An out-of-bounds planet is considered to be "unleashed": it acts as a wild card, and its energies manifest in exaggerated or unexpected ways.

Pluto—the planet that teaches us about the use and abuse of power, and also takes us through a process of detoxification and regeneration—will travel in and out of bounds to the South for the next 10 years (2025-2035). This first foray to the South lasts from September 1 to November 20, with Pluto being farthest from the ecliptic—and therefore most extreme in its expression—from October 3 to 18.

SATURN'S RETURN TO PISCES: When a planet's retrograde journey takes it back to the sign it recently left, we can assume that it is going back to complete unfinished business. After having been in Aries since May 24, Saturn returns to Pisces this week and will remain there until February 13, 2026.

Over these next five months, Saturn will be asking us to take another look at our spiritual practices to see how they are working for us. It will also call upon us to assess whether we truly "walk our spiritual talk."

Saturn's lessons always involve a reality check: Do we employ the Piscean ideals of compassion and understanding as a regular part of our daily lives, or are the words "we are all one" simply concepts that we use so that we can "feel" spiritual? And how can we more fully integrate our spiritual beliefs into our practical, "real world" interactions?

SEDNA AND URANUS STATION: When a planet comes to a standstill, whether to go retrograde or to go direct, we usually feel its influence more intensely. This week, both Sedna, the planet of Spiritual Destiny, and Uranus, the planet of Higher Consciousness, station in preparation for the retrograde phases of their orbits.

Both of these planets can activate major shifts, both in our physical lives and on the level of consciousness. Sedna tends to require a process of surrender and release, while Uranus can manifest as sudden or surprising changes that require flexibility and a higher perspective.

MARS-JUPITER SQUARE: Adding an extra layer of complication this week is the frictional square between Mars in Libra and Jupiter in Cancer, which perfects on September 4. This aspect represents a clash of principles, beliefs, and morals. Some may act quite impulsively or excessively under its influence.

Lawsuits are one possible manifestation of a Mars-Jupiter square, as are competitions of any description. The need to fight for one's ideals can inspire some to take unwise risks. With Jupiter in sensitive Cancer, we are cautioned not to take things personally.

TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE: The Full Moon on September 7 will be accompanied by a Total Lunar Eclipse. The lunation perfects at 11:08 a.m. PDT, when the Moon is at 15°22' Pisces and the Sun is at the same degree of Virgo. The eclipse will be visible in the skies over Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia. This is the longest Total Lunar Eclipse since 2022; totality will last for about 1 hour and 22 minutes.

Eclipses, especially total eclipses, are times of profound change. Significant events that alter the course of history can occur. On a personal level, we may experience completions, clearings, and course corrections. Happenings during eclipse season often feel fated in some way.

Aspects to the lunation provide insights into its lessons and what we may expect. Mercury's opposition to the Moon indicates that we will need to balance intuition with logic in order to successfully navigate any challenges. With Venus quincunx the Moon, relationships built on a rescuer/victim dynamic will likely go through a period of adjustment. On a positive note, Jupiter's trine to the Moon indicates we can tap into a sense of hope and optimism. However, with Pluto semisquare the Moon, we are likely to observe or to experience power struggles and manipulations.

The Sabian symbol for the sixteenth degree of Pisces offers additional advice for how to work with this week's eclipse energies: "In the quiet of their study, a creative individual experiences a flow of inspiration; reliance upon one's inner source of inspiration or guidance." As astrologer Dane Rudhyar explains in his book An Astrological Mandala, "The individual aspect of the creative process is emphasized, as is the individual's need for concentration and at least inner quiet. We must have faith in our own subjective strength."

ASPECTS THIS WEEK: Here are my brief interpretations of this week's most important aspects, day by day:

Monday

Saturn retrogrades into Pisces: Saturn will be in the sign of the Fishes from September 1, 2025, until February 13, 2026.

Mars sesquiquadrate Uranus and Sedna: Nervous energy is high. People can speak or act impulsively or irrationally.

Tuesday

Sedna stations retrograde: Sedna encourages us to surrender our attachment to the past and to embrace a new self-definition as well as our higher destiny.

Mercury quincunx Saturn, Mercury quincunx Neptune: Communications and technology may be disrupted today. There could be delays or confusion in travel matters.

Mercury enters Virgo: The Messenger Planet will be in Virgo from September 2 to 18 this year. Over this two-week period, our minds are likely to be more practical, analytical, and focused on details. The caution with Mercury in Virgo is to watch a tendency to be critical in our words or too limited in our perspectives.

Sun sesquiquadrate Eris: Controversies are stirred, perhaps involving health concerns or the healthcare industry.

Wednesday

Mercury square Uranus, Mercury quincunx Pluto, Mercury square Sedna, Mercury semisquare Mars: Communications could be very challenging now. People are impatient, irritable, and demanding, and may be quick to anger.

Jupiter trine North Node: Our sensitivity to the needs of others is emphasized. We are powerfully aware that all of humanity is one family.

Sun sesquiquadrate Chiron: Insecurities and fears could interfere with our ability to make wise decisions.

Thursday

Mercury semisquare Jupiter: We may be experiencing information overload or have a tendency to speak without thinking first.

Mars square Jupiter: Impulsive or grandiose actions are possible under this influence. Anger and defensiveness could be out of proportion to the situation.

Friday

Uranus stations retrograde: Uranus often brings surprising or sudden events, so we will benefit from being very flexible in our expectations now.

Saturday

Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn: We may feel distant from loved ones, or experience some disappointment in relationship or financial matters.

Sunday

Total Lunar Eclipse/Full Moon: The lunation perfects at 11:08 a.m. PDT. For those are able to view the Lunar Eclipse, totality will last for about 1 hour and 22 minutes, starting at 1731 UT and ending at 1853 UT.

Mercury sesquiquadrate Eris: People may be irritable or judgmental under this influence.

Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune: Confusion or disillusionment is possible in the areas of relationships or finances.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: It will be important to monitor your inner dialogue this year, especially if you tend to be self-critical or judgmental. There are opportunities to get to the heart of old insecurities and to discover the wounds that lie beneath the fears. Healing may be facilitated by journaling, talking with a trusted friend, or having a loving conversation with your inner child. (Solar Return Sun conjunct Mercury, sesquiquadrate Chiron)

In peace, love, and gratitude,

Pam
