Love Leading to a Thriving Future

Love Leading to a Thriving Future

From early childhood I struggled with some of the accepted realities of living in this world. Where was the evidence of love and a flourishing future?

The whole concept of war was alien to me. History lessons seemed preoccupied by it, which I never could fathom when there was so much fascinating beauty and wisdom to explore in the past. Over and over I found myself pondering the questions, “Why do we keep repeating the same, painful experience? Have we not learned our lesson yet? And why does no one else seem bothered by it?”

I was irresistibly drawn to the marginalized and neglected. In junior school I would often forgo outside playtimes to sit in the classroom with the fragile girl who had a hole in her heart. I was the only one of the gang of kids growing up on my estate who would play with my older neighbor. She attended what was then rather unkindly called a “special school for the educationally subnormal”. She looked and sounded obviously different. On discovering she couldn’t read, I spent many patient hours teaching and coaching her until she could.

Please don’t think I’m setting myself up to be some kind of saintly being here; believe me I know only too well how far from deserving that epithet I am. The point I want to make is that the innocent child I was simply didn’t recognize another way to be or act in these situations. It was a completely natural response. In fact, when my neighbor’s parents thanked me for my efforts years later, and my own Mum expressed what a difference this had made to her, I remember feeling genuinely surprised. It hadn’t seemed at all significant or unusual at the time.

Love Leading to a Thriving Future

As it was Valentine’s Day yesterday, these childhood memories floated up to the surface of my consciousness on reading Charles Eisenstein’s essay “Greatness after the Bulldozer”.

I think he’s right. Everyone, even if it’s deeply buried beneath the surface of conscious awareness, knows this to be true. Our current social system isn’t built on love; it doesn’t value compassion, inclusion, or accept difference. It’s built on the foundation of power, greed, control, and fear which insists that its members conform to whatever is enforced as the acceptable norm.

A Thrutopian vision of consciousness awakening

So how do we begin to change that? It’s a big ask, and something I and many other writers have been considering for a couple of years now in the Thrutopia Writers Masterclass (https://thrutopia.life/) I can thoroughly recommend this in depth class if you use the written word in any format to present alternative ways of living and being for a more flourishing future.

There are so many strands we need to weave into a vision of a heart-based society, grounded in love – financial, political, ecological, spiritual, to name but a few. As the marvelous Manda Scott explains, a Thrutopia offers,

“a clear, engaging route through to a world we’d all be proud to bequeath to future generations.”

It’s the passionate purpose underlying most of my writing now, as I focus on my chosen thread of the Thrutopian tapestry; consciousness awakening and spirituality. As a child I clearly believed another way was possible and acted on it intuitively. As an adult I still do, with an added sense of urgency. I’ve widened my scope to showing the way for others who feel the same and may not know how to begin to live it, or to persevere in the face of what they see in the current environment.

In our Thrutopia WhatsApp group thread yesterday, one of our members shared a link to the video below from Martha Beck. It’s a brilliantly simple visual and clear explanation of exactly how consciousness evolution can melt the whole fear-based system we currently live in. I absolutely adore the way she advocates,

“Include the patriarchy to death.”

Next month on March 29th, there will be a rare astrological conjunction of five planets in the sign of Pisces; they include the Moon, Mercury, Sun, Saturn, and Venus, plus the North node of the Moon. Pisces is the sign of unity, no separation, connection to other realms, intuitive and creative vision, and it holds that sense of dissolving into the watery ocean of All That Is. The North node of the moon represents our collective future, which now must embrace interconnectedness and a new, spiritual vision.

Watch and listen with hope for love and a flourishing future on this day after Valentine’s.

I’ve written a couple of poems around these themes of love, war, and the future if you’d like to read them:
