Enjoy Yourself With Life’s Pleasures.

Here’s my spiritual guidance August/September 2023, covering the month beginning with the Leo new moon at 10.38am on August 16th (in the UK).

Spiritual guidance August/September 2023 from the Tarot

We move into the realms of the heart and emotions this month with the beautiful Six of Cups. The number six is always about harmony and balance, and here it speaks about the giving and receiving of love, joy and a fulfilling delight in life. So for the next four weeks you will certainly be wise to become very aware of what brings you joy, what makes your body feel vibrantly alive and your soul sing, and do more of that.

Everything from dancing to music, sun-bathing and love-making are all good activities to pursue. It’s not just hedonistic indulgence I’m talking about, although do watch that you’re not using any of this just to escape from reality. Rather it’s about those things that enable you to commune with the divine (ecstasy) and enter the universal flow of life where everything seems to be effortless and easeful.

This card is also often linked to the past, particularly nostalgia and cherished memories about old times and friends. Perhaps it’s time for a reunion with people and places you love, or maybe there’s a dream or activity from the distant past that you gave up on but is now asking for your attention again. It’s as if your inner child is reaching out across the years and asking for some TLC and playtime. It’s so easy to let the responsibilities of life as an adult weigh you down and diminish your playfulness. I’m going to include laughter in this advice, because there’s nothing that serves to lighten you up as quickly and shrug off some over-serious weight.

On a spiritual level you may find yourself drawn to visit sacred sites or locations that have significance for your soul, through past life experience or knowledge of the helpful frequencies they hold. Go where you’re called to go, as you’ll reactivate wisdom and receive deep healing in these places.

Those three cups underneath the water line indicate the sub-conscious, and the feelings that you might be holding trapped down there in the unknown realms. This month is a wonderful time to go deep diving into where you might be suppressing or repressing your own feelings and ability to enjoy the pleasures of your body or life in general. There’s often some conditioning from your early past you carry around these subjects, and the energy is supportive now to help you discover it. Do you always feel you have to finish the housework or a project before you allow yourself some fun time? Are you still carrying some stigma around sex or impulsive silliness? Whose voice do you hear at these times, and what words do they use to make you feel guilty or “wrong”? I always find sitting by a body of water, especially the sea, can really help me tap into this so it might work for you too.

The other balance that’s indicated here is that of giving and receiving, and meeting in the place where both parties in any relationship are given what they need in equal measure to feel cherished and appreciated. So in terms of relationship where do you sit on that scale? Are you always the one doing the giving or the taking? Do you find it difficult to receive, whether that’s love, help, or anything else? Or do you rarely think to offer it? On the more global stage this card speaks about striking a balance where no one is taking more than they need and everyone is receiving, equally, what they need to live an enjoyable, thriving life. If you have spare time you could consider volunteering, or starting up a project to benefit your local community. A generosity of spirit is key to this card, no Scrooge-like bah humbug here thank you!

There’s a creative, imaginative feel to this card too, and when you’re working every hour available and stressed out by the efforts of just putting food on the table then the time and space for exercising your imagination and creative potential just isn’t there. It’s a human right that all should have access to, and humanity as a whole would benefit greatly from the ideas and actions that would arise from it. This makes me think of Universal Basic Income, and it’s possible this might be among the emerging themes over these four weeks.

Celebrate being you this month, dust off your inner child and let them out to play. Get together with close friends and family, treat yourself to a day by the sea, surprise someone with a gift or an offer of help. Your soul purpose is to live your joy in service to the greater whole, and the two are not mutually exclusive but intrinsically linked. Just ask the Six of Cups!

This Leo new moon is offering the chance for a fresh start, placing the focus on matters of the heart, creativity, and children (including your inner child). Uranus is still pushing its agenda of freedom, space and innovation as the way to challenge any overbearing authority. It’s all pointing towards activating a more inclusive and holistic vision of wealth for all by the full moon in Pisces on the 31st. This continues throughout the following weeks, inviting you to ask how you and the society your part of might do things differently. A move away from self-indulgence and power-hoarding and into radical new approaches to managing all kinds of material and physical resources like food, money and healthcare.
