Journeys Through Western Medicine

When I was diagnosed with FA (Friedreich’s Ataxia) in 2000, they used all the words no one wants to hear at age 28 – neurological, genetic, degenerative, incurable, etc. I was understandably distraught with that diagnosis, and it took over a year to regroup my thoughts.

A friend gave me the perspective I still use today… “300 years ago doctors would have been slicing open your abdomen to release demons from your body. They don’t understand genetics.” Perspective is everything.

Finding Your Perspective

If western medicine improves your quality of life, then it’s a good fit. If the medicine makes you sick, maybe it’s time for a different perspective. In 300 years, what will they say about our current medical model based on numbers and pharmaceuticals? Never mistake our current level of understanding with the actual truth. This, too, shall pass.

Choices for Your Health

You do what’s right for you, regardless of what the average number is. Instead of using all the disclaimers about not offering medical advice my message is this: do what works for you. If your quality of life improves then do that. There are many options to care for the health of your body, and you have the right to choose something outside western medicine. That’s all. I just want people to really support the body, even if that is outside convention.

Ninety-five percent of the world believes humans are a combination of body and soul. If we give our soul to the keeping of a religion, and our body to the keeping of a medical complex, what do we have left? Get straight with the concept of death, and then find your own perspective. Make your own choices about you.
