Craniosacral therapy provides a means of assessing and correcting restrictions in the body, particularly in relation to the craniosacral system, which cushions and protects the brain and spinal cord. By releasing these restrictions, craniosacral therapy can help increase your health by reducing pain and stress, improving circulation of fluids and helping to optimize central nervous system functioning. Craniosacral therapy also provides a very gentle, effective and relaxing way of releasing tensions anywhere in the body, and it helps to balance the autonomic nervous system, reducing the sympathetic “fight or flight” response if it is turned up too high.
Just a few conditions that can benefit from craniosacral therapy are listed below:
- aches and pains anywhere in the body
- headaches and migraines
- chronic neck and back pain
- TMJ dysfunction (tight jaw)
- Fibromyalgia
- Some forms of depression
- Stress and tension related disorders
- Some central nervous system disorders
Craniosacral therapy (CST) or cranial-sacral therapy, cranial osteopathy, and cranial therapy are forms of bodywork or alternative therapy using therapeutic touch to manipulate the synarthrodial joints of the cranium. A practitioner of cranial-sacral therapy may also apply light touches to a patient's spine and pelvis. -wiki
