Sun Conjunct Jupiter in Aquarius

Sun Conjunct Jupiter in Aquarius

On January 28, the Sun conjuncts Jupiter at 10 Aquarius. This is important, because after a year of extraordinary training, limitation, and self-discipline, we’ve going into a greater vision of collective possibilities, marred at times by people getting disillusioned. That reminds me of the old saw “I’d rather be disillusioned than illusioned.” Then we get to plan anew.

Each year the Sun conjuncts Jupiter, illuminating and powering up the Jupiter lesson of that degree for the next 13 months. Where the conjunction falls is where we get a new set of truths, higher and/or broader understanding, or maybe just opportunities to expand our lives.

Obviously, as Jupiter moves through the signs, it brings a different “tone” to the houses where we have Sagittarius and Pisces. Think back on recent years, and see how each year Jupiter occupied a given sign that “colored” your experiences in Jupiterian ways. As Jupiter shifts signs, it also changes the backdrop to planets we have in Sagittarius and Pisces.

During the past few years, we’ve had the Sun conjunct Jupiter at the beginning of each sign. As the Sun conjuncts Jupiter, it lights up the Jupiterian promise, or message, or grace, or possibility in those parts of our life. The degree of the conjunction becomes “an enlightened promise,” or “illuminated adventure” in the life area shown by the house it falls in. We now power up a new truth, a new vision, a new freedom, a new promise, and a new quest on our eternal “Hero’s journey.”

Past, Present, and Future Sun-Jupiter Conjunctions

Because of irregularities in Jupiter’s orbit, the conjunction doesn’t always fall in successive signs. In 2010, the conjunction was at 10 Pisces in late February. In 2011, it was at 17 Aries in early April. In 2012, the conjunction was at 24 Taurus in mid-May. In 2013, it fell at 29 Gemini in mid-June. In 2014, the conjunction was at 2 Leo in late July.

That means there was no Sun conjunct Jupiter in Cancer during this period in history. The last one was in 2002, and next one will be 2025. Because of the speed of Jupiter's orbit, every so often a sign will be skipped, which has its own interesting implications.

Resuming the string of conjunctions, in 2015 it was at 4 Virgo in late August. In 2016, it was at 4 Libra in late September. In 2017, it was at 4 Scorpio. In 2018, it happened at 4 Sagittarius. Last year it happens at 6 Capricorn. We didn’t have one in 2020, and now resume the string with this one at 10 Aquarius, obviously activating a larger expansion based in what we left behind since Mars went retrograde at that degree in June 2018. The next one will occur on March 5, 2022, at 15 Pisces.

How the Conjunction Manifests After the Event

Each of these conjunctions lights up a “hot spot” of illuminated opportunity, truth, or adventure in our charts that lasts a year. However, it is triggered different times in different ways by the transits of other planets over the degree of the conjunction.

In fact, often we will see major results of that promise activated as Mars transits the degree, with the other planets each bringing elements of that promise via its “department of labor.” This can mean through people or opportunities in circumstances described by the sign of the conjunction.

For example, the 2014 conjunction was at 4 Leo. That means each Summer when the Sun, Mercury, and Venus pass over 4 Leo, we get new information via those planets of the promise activated in late July 2014. It was reactivated with each Mars transit of that degree in August 2015, July 2017, July 2019, and will be again this June.

The 2015 conjunction at 4 Virgo was hyper charged due to Venus dancing with Mars in Leo during that season, with Mars quickly activating the conjunction degree in late September, and Venus capturing concrete forms of it in mid-October. Not much waiting for that one to manifest!! Those themes got a Martian boost in September 2017, August 2019, and will be activated anew August 2021. As the last two involved Mars conjunct TransPluto, “Divine Mother” energy is now very prominent in the collective atmosphere.

The 2016 conjunction at 4 Libra wasn’t really activated until the subsequent Mars transit in October 2017 and boosted in October 2019. The 2017 conjunction at 4 Scorpio was activated in a big way when Mars transited Scorpio in December 2017 and boosted in November 2019. The 2018 conjunction at 4 Sagittarius was activated by Mars in January 2020, and last year’s conjunction in Capricorn launched in February 2020. This one will activate when Venus transits 10 Aquarius in early February, but be “set in stone” when Saturn transits this degree in March 2021.

Sabian Symbol for the Conjunction

This conjunction is at 10 Aquarius. The symbol for the 10th degree of Aquarius is “A popularity that proves ephemeral.” In the Marc Jones class notes from The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this is a degree of “ability to rise above vicissitudes of passing fortune,” “faithfulness to self,” dependence upon native endowment,” and “projection.”

In his Astrological Mandala, we are told that this degree is one of “the need to deal with human beings as persons rather than as screen upon which one projects one’s dream and ideal.” He goes on to state this degree contrasts the ideal and the reality, the person and the archetype they seem to represent. He states “the star’s popularity fades away, the person remains.”

He continues that this symbol is about “person versus archetype. This can mean a critical need to self-evaluation.” He offers that this is in the Span of Defensiveness, and is the culminating degree on the emotional-cultural level of the Scene of Contribution in the Act of Capitalization.

Dr. Marc Jones says this symbol is one of “the eternal challenge which comes to an individual at every point of climax in (their) experience, and of the swing of the pendulum between an endorsement and a repudiation of (our) efforts by (our) social group.” He offers that we must “accept the applause as encouragement in (our) self-strengthening” even as we search for “continued sustainment from (our) own ability of being.”

He continues that “a courageous self-confidence and an unflagging faith are worthy of recognition, but only in their moment of significance.” He offers us the keyword APPROBATION, and says when this degree is working positively, it’s one of “a gift for bringing the issues of life to a dramatic consummation at a time of crisis.”

So the theme of this conjunction shows the Light of wider, brighter, and more intensely future oriented Jupiter energy over the next year is illuminating a year of rising above life’s changes, and accepting our “self-strengthening” by the approval within the Spiritual group we’re part of. We can enter a new social-cultural organized vision of a greater work to do, consciously directing our social destiny into a broader ideal form while pulling back from roles we do not need to play.

Summing Up

So from Autumn 2016 through Autumn 2017 we finished a year of opening to more ideal relationships and finding those who share our heart fire (even if these have barely begun to manifest). From Autumn 2017 to November 2018, we explored the higher, wider, and deeper qualities of life, and strengthened our magnetic bond with some things while letting go of all we do not need. We lightened our load, and made space for a much broader future which came forth in the past year influenced by Sun is conjunct Jupiter in Sagittarius. We now get to organize those truths and visions into organized effective power.

We then moved from a year of “Enlightened Expansion” and greater truths into a year where we got to demonstrate those truths into social power. 2020 finished its old cycles with Pluto and Saturn, putting us into a new 12 year cycle with both those spiritual powerhouses.

Any conjunction to Jupiter ends an old view and begins a newer, broader vista of perception as a result of our movement since the last conjunction. Four years ago we had a year of Activating Air; three years ago we had a year of Stable Water. Two years ago we had Distributive Fire, and last year we had a year of Activating Earth. This will be a year of Stable Air!

So consider a new adventure has been launched wherever you have 10 Aquarius in your chart. This adventure will be easy or hard on other parts of your life depending on what aspects are in play. Much that is promised by this conjunction will become evident in 2022, as Saturn transits this degree in December 2021, followed by Mercury, the Sun, Venus, and Mars in January, February, and March. This will quicken the entire process, as well as the numerous conjunctions with Jupiter this year.

This is the first Sun-Jupiter conjunction in the new 200 year Era! The organized structures we built or participated in last year will yield new visions, new group work, new future oriented efforts, and a new Aquarian pulse now that Jupiter conjuncted Saturn at 1 Aquarius in December 2020. We’re entering an era of greater interrelatedness than we’ve ever known before, so do your thing the best way you’re able within the emerging vision and collective work.
