Feed the Inner Child to Navigate Life with Power

Hello friends,
Today I'd like to talk about the importance of feeding your inner child, and how this helps you navigate life during these times of mega change.
Background
As adults we're often praised for being serious, responsible, and productive - but somewhere along the way, many of us lose touch with the playful spirit we had as children. What if the secret to a more joyful, creative, and fulfilling life wasn't in doing more, but in playing more? Reconnecting with your inner child isn't just about nostalgia - it's about healing, joy, and rediscovering who you are beneath the expectations.
The inner child is the part of us that holds our childhood experiences, wonder, and vulnerabilities. As we become adults, the inner child is often overlooked - yet it influences our adult behavior and emotional well-being.
3 Reasons Why Adults Can Lose Touch With Play
- Societal pressures: work, bills, family responsibilities.
- Play is seen as frivolous or immature.
- Trauma or unresolved childhood wounds may cause disconnection from the inner child.
There are plenty of psychological benefits of play. It reduces stress and anxiety, for one. It also sparks creativity and innovation.
Ways To Feed Your Inner Child
- Engage in creative play - like dancing, painting, writing stories.
- Rediscover childhood favorites - like cartoons, visiting a theme park, eating your favorite snacks from childhood.
- Create space for unstructured fun - spontaneous walks, games, or silly conversations.
- Practice self-compassion - speak kindly to yourself as you would to a child.
- Inner child journaling or dialogue - write letters to or from your inner child.
Remember that play is a powerful act of self-care and authenticity. Consider a playful step you could take today, to reclaim your joy and spontaneity.
