New Moons are a time for planting seeds that you wish to expand and grow during the time of the New Moon cycle. Libra seeks balance and harmony in relationship. It is the sign of the diplomat and peacemaker. It is the mediator who is able to see both sides of an issue and find a compromise through co-operation. Libra does not like conflict. But it has to learn how to resolve inner conflict that creates imbalance. That is the lesson of this Moon cycle.

The traditional planetary guide of this Libra Lunation is Venus. She has just entered her retrograde journey in Scorpio (Oct 05 to Nov 16) and is currently at 10 degrees Scorpio. Venus in Scorpio asks us to look at what lies beneath. She supports us to heal, transform, and release the old wounds that haunt us. Those wounds prevent us from finding inner peace and true empowerment. Venus in Scorpio is an intense healing journey that should not be avoided. Her Animal Totem guides are Snake, shedding the old and release, and Beaver, clearing the clutter and building the new. Her Sacred guide is the Phoenix, resurrection and rebirth. During her time in Scorpio she will continue to expose issues of sexual abuse and misuse of power. Those are the shadow side of Scorpio. Venus in Scorpio is square the North Node at 03 degrees Leo (the ego or the heart) and the South Node at 03 degrees Aquarius (letting the past go with love).  She is also square Black Moon Lilith at 07 degrees Aquarius (the collective shadow of illusion and deception) who is travelling with Mars at 09 degrees Aquarius (aloof detachment and coldness). This square between Venus and Mars is Fourth Quarter of revision and eventually realignment. The square is motivation for change and finding new ways of doing things.

The energy of change is strong with this Moon Cycle. The Soul Centered ruler of the Libra New Moon is Uranus Rx at 01 degrees Taurus. He too is square the North Node (new directions) and the South Node (the past). Uranus in Taurus asks us the break free from what is no longer of value or importance and breakthrough to what is of true value. He was in a Fourth Quarter Square (revisioning the use of power) with Mars in Aquarius (creating the new masculine) from May to Sept this year. He was opposite (resolving conflict) Venus in Scorpio (empowered feminine) on Sept 12 and will be opposite her again on Oct 31. This opposition occurs again on Nov 30 when Venus, now direct, is at 28 degrees Libra (relationship) and Uranus Rx is at 28 degrees Aries (authentic self). So the energy of profound change in our relationship experience is ongoing. Pay attention to new directions opening up during this Libra Moon cycle. The doors will open wide in November. Change in relationship direction is the theme.

The Sun/Moon at 15 degrees Libra are travelling with the Dwarf planet Ceres (Demeter) at 14 degrees Libra (healing issues of loss and abandonment). There is another opportunity for transformation and rebirth during this Moon cycle. Pluto at 18 degrees Capricorn (transformation of society) is square (finding new ways of doing things) the Sun/Moon/Ceres in Libra (inner harmony and balance in relationship) and the Earth at 15 degrees Aries (spiritual warrior for change). This is a T Square with Pluto being emphasised. Pluto tears down the old structures that no longer serve and creates space for the new to grow. We will see how that energy manifests in our own lives and in society. Something definitely needs to change and soon.

Our Animal Totem guides for this Libra New Moon are Crow, sacred law and justice and fairness for all, and Raven, who guides us into the Mysteries. For the Earth in Aries our guides are Falcon, clear inspired vision, and Red Tailed Hawk, spiritual messages and Spiritual Messenger (they are reversed for the Southern Hemisphere). The clan Mother for Libra is Weaves the Web. She is the Mother of creativity and the manifester of dreams who brings visions into reality. She teaches us how to work with the truth. For the Earth in Aries we are guided by Looks Far Woman. She is the keeper of the Golden Door of illumination and the Crack in the Universe where our visions live. There is no story this time. Snowy Owl and Shooting Star must be on their own inner journeys. But there is a story to share about Venus retrograde. I will share a brief description of the story. When Venus started her retrograde journey at 10 degrees Scorpio on Oct 05 (and she is still at 10 degrees Rx at this New Moon) the Asteroid Persephone was also at 10 degrees Scorpio. The story of Persephone is about a journey of empowerment. She was the daughter of Demeter (Ceres) who was the guardian of the harvest. One day the maiden Persephone was out in the meadow picking wild flowers for her mother. The bowels of the Earth opening up and Hades (Pluto) driving a chariot with black horses kidnapped Persephone and took her into the Underworld to be his queen (some interpretations say she went willingly). Demeter was so distraught that she abandoned her job as guardian of nature and everything began to die. Zeus (Jupiter) king of the gods intervened and a compromise was made between Hades and Demeter. For six months of the year during autumn and winter Persephone remained underground with Hades. Come spring she was reborn and returned to her mother to spend the summer. It is a story of rite of passage from maiden to woman. It is about finding our personal power. While Venus is retrograde she echoes this story.  Pluto square Ceres at this New Moon is about finding a solution that creates harmony and peace for all.
