Life can be unquestionably hard at times as we try to navigate the twists, turns, dead-ends, nooks, crannies, hills and valleys. We never know what’s around the next corner and although we may try to be as prepared as possible we can never truly know what’s coming as life is unexpected and unpredictable. This isn’t to say that we can’t shape, define and flavour our lives by the choices and decisions we make – this is simply an observation that we don’t write the rule book and we don’t usually have an instruction manual either.

As we journey through life we change and shift, experiencing endings and exploring new beginnings, we constantly evolve and transform, never standing still, never breathing the same air twice. Sometimes this can feel quite dizzying as we can feel as though we are spinning in a vast mixing pot of universal ‘stuff’ and we can become lost in translation, feeling altered and metamorphosed, but without finding the words or language to articulate or explain this. We can feel alone and isolated, feeling as though no one else can understand or comprehend the depths of our experience and whilst in many ways this is true (after all every soul is unique), it also couldn’t be further from the truth as so many other souls are going through something similar and this feeling of deep discombobulation is far-reaching.

Yet, how do others know we are going through this and how do others let us know they are going through it? Well, ‘it takes one to know one’ may be a bit twee but there’s truth in those words as we only need to look around to gain a sense of others who carry a similar energy to our own. There is a sense of kinship – a knowing – and when we look, we can feel it and see it in others, and the more we look, the more we realise we are not alone.

When we are feeling overwhelmed it’s easy for the shutters to fall as we close ourselves off from life yet it’s often during such times when we need to be open more than ever in order to realise just how interconnected and intertwined we really are. It’s often the little things that make a difference. It can be one small gesture that can give us the strength to do enormous things: a smile can lift the spirits, a conversation can shift perspective or a simple act can shift the course of a life. It’s often the case when we feel overwhelmed and lost in translation that we can miss such small gestures as we become so wrapped up in the knots and tangles of getting through each day. We lose sight of the bigger picture and struggle to achieve some much-needed breathing space yet all we need to do is to take a deep breath, hold it briefly, breath out and re- focus. It can be that simple.

Life doesn’t have to be complicated so why make it so? The more deeply we breathe into life, the more we realise that we are navigating those shifts, twists and turns rather better than we often think, and we are much stronger than we believe. Once we lift our heads above the heaviness we can begin to think about re-connecting with like-minded souls and reaching out to others still meandering along the path.

At the same time, it’s important to remember that life isn’t all hard work and spiritual shift (with and without the f), as there’s plenty of room for lightness, happiness and joy. So, March looks set to ask an important question: What brings out your happy?

March looks set to be a month of continued self-exploration and self-discovery as you begin to create a new way of living and being based upon a new wave of strength, tenacity and voracity rising up from deep within your heart and soul. It’s as though you have reached the crescendo of a wave that’s breaking on the shores of new terrain and you seem more than ready to explore this new world with passion and enthusiasm. You find yourself torn, and this has come as something of a surprise as you have never really doubted your pioneering spirit before, but now you have an opportunity to explore pastures new, you are not quite sure if it’s what you truly want. Fear not. Doubt is understandable and it’s a healthy sign you are not charging ahead with a cavalier attitude. A new beginning doesn’t have to mean enormous change, it simply means an opportunity to begin a new chapter that allows you to incorporate your creativity, vision and sparkle into your everyday life…

As you continue to seek out some extra magic and sparkle in your life, there is a sense you are beginning to realise that this is not necessarily something you need to ‘do’ as it is more of a state of mind and a state of being. Sometimes life can feel heavy and full of burden, and even routine tasks can feel gargantuan as you can struggle to drag yourself through the week. However, other weeks you seem to glide through even though the structure of the week is essentially the same. So, what’s the difference? Well, in short, it’s the essence of the energy; it’s your perspective and your demeanour, its how you carry yourself. It’s a bit like the glass-half full analogy only far more complex as you are a complicated soul and simple analogies really cannot come close to explaining how you work. When life feels heavy, it becomes heavy and when you are feeling bright, everything feels lighter.

There isn’t really a clear-cut scientific explanation for this, it’s more of an observation and it’s not new to you, it just seems that you’ve forgotten to apply this to your own life. Of course, this isn’t to say if you think happy thoughts then you can skip through the hills and valleys of life without a care in the world as things don’t really work that way, this is more of a reflection to help you to understand that there is already plenty of magic and sparkle in your life, it’s just that you are often so wrapped up in the mundane or dealing with being everything to everyone else to notice it. Take some time, pause and open up your heart and soul; you will soon begin to notice the shift and this will inspire you to find new ways to incorporate more lightness and energy into your life…

As you continue to seek out those special moments that allow you to breathe more deeply into life, there is a growing sense you are beginning to truly understand the essence of this concept. As a result, you are able to condense and distil the essence of ‘being in the moment’ into something more tangible for you to make sense of in order to allow you to walk through life more consciously than ever before. In many ways, such a shift is unlikely to change a great deal in terms of getting things done or ticking off boxes on your ever-growing ‘to do’ list, but it is likely to see you sort the wheat from the chaff when it comes to your true priorities. This also has the knock on effect of then disconnecting you from the things, people and dreams that truly matter as there simply isn’t the space or capacity in your life for you to do more. You are a multi-layered, multi-faceted, multi-talented soul; most people who know you well would agree with this observation as you often present a kind of ‘holding everything together’ composure in your day to day life which leaves others in awe of how you cope so well. Of course, we both know that this can be a well-crafted façade, and although there are many days where you are indeed holding it all together, on the days where you are not, no one would really know as you do such a good job of keeping on keeping on, smiling and doing the best you can. You seem to have mastered the art of bluff and bluster, which you seem to have adopted as a coping mechanism as you had to keep the wheels on the bus turning when everyone else was falling apart, distracted or simply not interested. As a result, you are seen as the strong, steadfast and reliable one, all of which are true, but there is something about this that frustrates you immensely because alongside this is a sense of feeling taken for granted because you’re the back-up plan; always have been, always will be.

Therefore, over time, you have started to take on more and more yourself to make sure things get done right in the first place so you don’t have to go back and pick up the pieces. This is understandable but it’s become very cumbersome and very tiring, and, there’s no polite way of putting this, but you’re knackered. Although you have always known yourself to be a sparkling, twinkling star, shining brightly and illuminating your world from the inside, out, there is a sense that you have often felt unable to let this little star shine brightly as you have preferred to fit in rather than stand out. The reasons for this are complicated but they seem to stem from a desire to want to fit in, something you have longed for as you have wanted to feel as though you are an integrated part of the ‘collective’ rather than feeling as though you are sitting on the edge watching the world, feeling slightly different to everyone else but never really being able to grasp the reasons why. The concept of ‘fitting in’ is also complex though as it suggests a discontentment with where you are and a desire to bend yourself, even slightly, out of shape in order to be what you are perhaps not. Why would you want to be anyone other than whom you truly are?

Yet – and here is the paradoxical conundrum – you also feel a slight sense of jubilation that you are unique and different! You thrive on seeing the world from a different perspective and gain so much knowledge and wisdom from existing on the periphery of life. This is a challenging situation to overcome, after all, they appear to be at opposing ends of the spectrum, yet, intuitively you already know how to broker a peace deal as the key here is not in ousting one or the other but in allowing both to flourish and thrive. Of course, this pause leaves you very much in the space of where you are now, which is the only space you can only ever be in, but life often has a habit of distracting you from this fact. There are so often things to do, places to go or people to see that end up distracting you as you work so hard to tick off that formidable ‘to do list’ you have at your side, yet the list always grows; you make achievements of course, it’s just that you keep adding new goals, dreams and tasks to the list. This is only natural, as life is not a straightforward path, it meanders and oscillates, as you learn, grow and evolve with each passing day.

At the same time, what seemed important yesterday may no longer feel so today, and new goals and dreams move into focus. So, although your list never really shortens, it evolves. Yet, your ‘to do list’ is once again distracting you from the here and now as it is this moment that truly matters, not what you haven’t yet done or achieved. It’s easy to think about your life in terms of what you haven’t achieved or mastered or succeeded at, and you seem be have excelled at criticising yourself when you have failed to meet the exacting standards you’ve set for yourself but why? Why do you give yourself such a hard time? Is it because you think you should do better? Do you think you are not enough as you are? Living life well and getting life right have been central themes in your life for a long time now. For you, it can be hard to see a difference between the two as you have high standards and your exacting demands of yourself can mean you see getting life right as the only way to live life well. Yet, over time your perspective has mellowed a little as your life experiences have seen you facing some mighty challenges where things simply haven’t worked out as planned or hoped. It seems clear that you’ve reached a point in your evolution where you realised that the constant demands of trying to get life right meant striving for perfection and chasing the horizon, and it was exhausting as you never felt like you were enough even though you intuitively knew you were more than enough. So, after much deliberation you have now stopped trying so hard to get life right and instead shifted your focus towards living life well as you realise that this is the true key to happiness.
