Kintsugi

Kintsugi

I am a broken vessel.

Broken in a million disparate

pieces, crowned through the dark

fissure of my mother's soft clay

whereby all the synaptic

possibilities meted in

this life alight like a

swarm of bees

to a sweep

of desert

bloom.

Learning to abide

this wonder, the faults in this

blossoming, its fracturing—root by

root, petal by petal, split by split—bestowed

not merely to mind, but to

being, has been

this life

lived.

Amalgam

of those

before.

Coming to see connections,

own sunder, to trust, gradually meld

these all but irreparable, irreconcilable

shatterings, rifts of my solid-seeming earth,

is a mission of light over might, of

surrender to the cleaving borne

in every breath—taken,

given, oft

held.

Each a

course

to now.

Relinquishing

what was

to chance

what is.

Gold.

Like all

stores

mined for

their intrinsic

multifarious

value to

bind a

sighted

world to

its seeing.

Alchemizing

the fragments into

a new thing entirely,

a greater wholeness,

splendor—in

and through, due

to the brokenness,

yielding refractions even

the potter did not

bake into the

glaze.
