Winter Wood:

a Love Song

Magic is afoot

amidst this sky of

diamonds fell

to earth.

Glitter cast

by branching

wands of white pine,

the peace tree, as noted

by the wise ones of

native knowing,

obliging the willing

wanderer snow

cones from

soft still

green

hands.

The merest

gasp of wind

blizzards rafts

of crystals so

minute as to be

indistinguishable

to a naked gaze

until the sun

beams its

rays

into the

plays of

current:

wonderland

ablaze with

multitudes of

infinitesimal rainbows,

faeries tend

to shine

so that

the winter

traveler might

pause, for a spell,

might lie upon

the glistening

down

— just for now —

to receive the

wintertide gift

beauty wishes

to bestow

silently.
