Answering the Call: Your Path to Higher Guidance

Blessings have been bestowed upon me in ways I could never have imagined.

After seven years of international travel per my inner guidance, I had settled into a comfortable home that was perfect for me at the time. When the activity of the surrounding environment changed, I could feel the call to move on. I spent time canvasing the available options because I liked the area in which I was living. But I kept hearing a whisper that my new home was not yet aligned.

Then one morning, I felt the urge to check Craig’s list. To my delight there was an ad for a “carriage house” on one of the local islands. In Europe the term “carriage house” is common, but here in the US, our country isn’t old enough to maintain carriage houses. So I took this as a sign that this was what I was waiting for. I immediately answered the ad and set up an appointment.

After taking the ferry to the island, I navigated the rural streets in search of the address. Although there were street signs, can we really call them streets, for there were no sidewalks or lines on the road? I turned into the driveway which wound through a grove of ancient cedar trees. The moment my tires hit the land I knew THIS was where I was meant to be.

The Perfect Home Revealed

My first thought was: I hope this carriage house is habitable. Once I turned the corner, all trepidation quieted. The main house that appeared through the branches, although fairly new construction, was reminiscent of the architecture of southern France which still holds my heart. After viewing the carriage house, a fancy name for an apartment above the garage, I knew I was home. Although much smaller than any place I have ever lived, it was well equipped, nicely decorated and plenty spacious for the few things I owned after years of travel. I have come to realize the gift of living in a small space. It requires much less maintenance and responsibility than a larger home, allowing me the freedom to dive deeply into a life I had yet to imagine.

For the past sixteen years I’ve been living in a world where the roots of the ancient trees hold wisdom whispered to me as I walk over their paths. Where the Fae frolic and multidimensional portals abound because it’s a safe space. Where birdsong drifts on the breeze with every sunrise. Where the waves of the sea lap upon the shore reminding me to honor the natural flow of life.

Answering the Call

Today, I sit in my rocking chair gazing out into the forest realizing how blessed I truly am. There are times I miss having a bath tub (although I have a lovely shower), and would appreciate a personal laundry room (there is a shared laundry in the main house) and I would enjoy a fireplace. But those things are outweighed by the Blessings bestowed upon me by this sacred forest where the forest beings and Fae scamper freely inviting me to play.

I am truly Blessed. All that’s ever been required is “answering the call” with my full Presence and the appreciation of all that’s been bestowed upon me. Have I had challenges in my life? Indeed I have. But even those have been resolved with blessings, sometimes not realized until later in life.

The forest has always been my sacred place. I recall when my career required me to live in the city. I had to have at least one tree within view. Your place may be totally different. It may be in a busy city, or a rural village. It may be in community with others, or a solitary life. It matters not.

What matters most is: Are you listening and answering the call?
If so, you will always find Home.
