There is a law which every man proves, though few understand it: What you continue to occupy within yourself, you continue to meet in the world. Man does not live in the outer world alone. He lives from an inner state. And a state is not a vague mood. A state is a stable vibration of consciousness.

It is the inner condition you return to so often that it begins to feel natural. A vibration becomes stable through repetition. A thought entertained once may pass away. A feeling touched once may disappear. But what is repeated begins to settle. It gathers strength. It becomes rhythm. It becomes atmosphere. It becomes the place from which you think, feel, expect, and move. This is the secret of vibration.

When a pattern repeats, it becomes a wave. And when a wave is sustained, it does not remain where it began. It propagates. It carries its information forward. It extends influence. So it is with consciousness. A state returned to again and again becomes a living wave within you. It begins to impress the deep mind. It begins to clothe itself in perception, reaction, choice, timing, speech, posture, and circumstance.

This is why the happy grow happier, the healthy grow stronger, and the abundant grow more abundant. They are not favored by life. They have, knowingly or unknowingly, repeated a certain inner movement until it has become natural. And what is natural to consciousness becomes visible in experience.

Modern physics gives us a useful symbol for this. The world is not dead, fixed matter. Beneath appearance there is field, movement, probability, wave, and pattern. A wave carries information. It does not need to shout to be powerful; it only needs to continue. The same is true of your inner life. Whatever you keep vibrating, you keep sending forward. And whatever you keep sending forward must, in time, return to you as echo, evidence, and experience.

Repetition Is the Way a State Becomes Real to You

Many people try to change their lives by one act of will. But consciousness is not remade by occasional effort. It is remade by repeated occupation. You become the state you return to. Return often to fear, and fear feels true. Return often to peace, and peace becomes your dwelling place. Return often to weakness, and weakness gathers witnesses. Return often to strength, and strength begins to speak through the body.

This is why repetition is sacred. It is the steady movement by which an unseen assumption becomes a felt reality. It is how a vibration becomes stable enough to become a state. And once a state is established, life begins to multiply it.

This is where autosuggestion becomes powerful. Autosuggestion is the conscious use of repetition to establish a new inner rhythm. Émile Coué expressed this law in the simple formula: “Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better.” This sentence does not argue with the old state. It establishes a new one. It gives consciousness a direction and repeats it until the deeper mind begins to accept it as natural.
