Why Tender Energy Changes Everything

Yesterday, one of my older sons called to check in. He wanted to know how I was doing being back in the Carolinas for a few weeks to see my babies. We spoke from the heart—tenderly, honestly. He was happy it was going well, and then he paused and asked me a question that landed deeply:
“Are you afraid?”
I had to stop and feel into it. I scanned my spirit. Was I?
“No,” I said softly.
Then he clarified—“I mean with the political stuff, the government, all that’s happening right now.”
Again, I answered, “No.”
He responded in the sweetest, most protective tone:
“Mom, I know that’s not your reality, but I wanted to remind you not to get pulled into anything else…”
And that’s when I shared something I’ve come to understand: At this point in my life, I get to be a witness. Even when hard things are happening to me, I now allow the emotions to rise and greet them without clinging. I observe them. I let them pass through. I honor them. But I don’t become them.
We have so little control over the world around us. But we do get to choose how we show up.
We get to decide the energy we carry.
We get to stay grounded in love even while the world trembles.
We get to speak truth without screaming.
We get to feel heartbreak without becoming bitter.
This is not ignoring the atrocities. It’s not bypassing the pain. It’s remembering that we are more powerful as instruments of peace than as reactors to chaos.
We cannot control the storm—but we can choose to become stillness within it. And from that stillness, we create ripples.
Stay awake.
Stay tender.
Stay true.
I choose love over fear everyday. I get to decide that.
