When the Hardest Choice is Making One

Doubt can creep up on you when you least expect it, even when you have made up your mind and begun to make plans.

In those moments, it is very easy to begin second-guessing everything previously decided, causing a lack of confidence in oneself and one’s intuition.

Indecisive people can find making decisions for change very difficult indeed, preferring to let others choose for them in case they make a mistake. Making life-changing decisions can be challenging at the best of times, but for those who lack confidence in themselves, it can be excruciating.

The Universe will always have your back, but it works best when the lines are clear. Sitting on the fence about something will only delay things, because blurry lines are very hard to decipher. Making a firm choice may seem final and difficult, but once a choice is made, the lines become clear, and the Universe can ‘read’ them and begin to deliver what you want, as long as you remain focused and clear in your mind.

If making a decision is the hardest thing for you, learn to listen to your heart and feel with your gut, rather than going over everything in your mind until it is all a tangled mess! Even though a choice is logical, what does your heart say? Are you making the best decision for your future? How would it feel if you went down each path, if there is more than one choice? Why are you even making this decision—for you, or for someone else?

Doubting yourself can mean that you don’t trust yourself, and it could even be an indicator of low self-esteem. Worrying about what other people may think also might mean that you are not feeling empowered, whereas being concerned about the effect your decision has on others is an indication of a higher consciousness. If you are, at any time, unable to weigh up the pros and cons and make a balanced judgment, maybe try this simple technique:

Narrow down the choices to two or three; e.g., one that you really want, one that others are telling you, and one that is possible. Centre your energy in your heart space and breathe slowly until you feel grounded and relaxed. Put your mind out of the way as much as you can.

‘Feel’ into each option by seeing it at the end of a path. How long is the path—is it straight or windy? Does it get darker or lighter? As you walk towards the choice, would you feel happy doing it/being there this year, in two years, in five years? Are you instinctively drawn or repelled?

While making a firm decision is the best way to move forward with positive intention, lingering doubt is also a sign not to be discounted. Learn to trust your intuition and follow your instincts. If it doesn’t feel right, then it probably isn’t the best choice, even if it ticks all the other boxes.

Sometimes, leaving it up to the Universe can help take the stress out of making any decision. If you do that, always thank the Universe for delivering what you want/need in the highest and best way and timing for you, then let it go.
