JUPITER ALIGNS WITH SIRIUS:
The fixed star Sirius is the brightest star in Earth's night sky, shining 23 times brighter than our own Sun. As seen from Earth, the star is located at about 14⁰ Cancer; this week, the planet Jupiter crosses that degree of the zodiac and aligns with Sirius.
In ancient cultures, Sirius was believed to be a portal to the Gods, with the ability to enhance a process of enlightenment. Today, the star is often called our Spiritual Sun, helping us shift into higher levels of spiritual awareness. The energies it transmits support spiritual awakening.
Jupiter is the planet of Expansion, acting to magnify the intentions of whatever it touches. This week, as the Giant Planet joins its energies with those transmitted by Sirius, a connection is opened between the physical and spiritual realms. We have greater access to spiritual wisdom, a higher perspective, and a visionary mindset.
On the physical level of reality, Sirius is known as the Star of Success and supports brilliance in worldly achievements. It inspires us to dream big and to turn our goals and visions into reality. Jupiter's alignment with the star could be experienced as a call to step into one's power, to embrace a leadership role, and to shine brightly in some area of life. Specifically, we might find doors opening in the area of life represented by the house in our natal charts where 14⁰ Cancer is located.
As with all things astrological, there are both positives and negatives associated with Sirius. Astrologer Roderick Kidston shares these insights in his book The Magic of the Stars:
Sirius is a spiritual star of truly immense power. Although it traditionally offers success and fame, in its unskillful aspect, Sirius is one of the stars of hubris. Traditionally, Sirius was called the "Dog Star," but it is the wily desert jackal rather than the friendly domestic dog. The jackal is a skillful hunter, keen sighted, representing the power to find one's way in the trackless darkness. Positively and skillfully used, however, Sirius raises people to the highest they can achieve, and its rewards are not only physical, but spiritual as well. Sirius is a star of magic—the ability to harness hidden forces and create something new, working with subtle energies and making them manifest in the material realm.
OPPORTUNITIES:
Two longer-term, supportive aspects perfect this week: the Saturn-Uranus sextile and the Neptune-Sedna sextile. The sextile aspect is often subtle in its effects, but it does represent an opportunity and an ease that we can choose to tap into.
As Saturn sextiles Uranus, we have access to the practicality, discipline, and stability of Saturn while also being able to enjoy the idealism, innovation, and flexibility of Uranus. Steady progress is supported with these two planets working together, but we are also aware that our concepts of "reality" (including time) are undergoing radical change. The aspect, which perfects on August 11, is the second of three exact sextiles between Saturn and Uranus. The first occurred on April 4 and the third will perfect on January 19, 2026.
Also exact for the second time this week is a sextile between Neptune, the planet of Transcendence, and Sedna, the planet of Higher Destiny. This aspect helps us to be in tune with both our soul's higher intentions and our personal desire for purpose and empowerment.
This aspect supports us in letting go of old, disempowering forms and self-definitions, while opening us to a vibrational upshift. Challenges that occur now are designed to lift us to a higher level of consciousness. This can be a favorable time for a vision quest.
The Neptune-Sedna sextile was exact for the first time on April 11. It perfects this week on August 11, and will repeat three more times next year—on February 20, October 23, and December 23, 2026.
URANUS IN GEMINI SNIPPET:
Uranus is a planet of many aliases, one of which is the God of Chaos. With Uranus in Gemini (as of July 7), our thoughts may be more random and our nervous systems may feel a bit disorganized, at least until we become accustomed to the new energies. This quote from Owen Waters can help put these uncomfortable symptoms into perspective:
Many would say that today’s changes are intense to the point of becoming chaotic. In physics, chaos is a temporary phase between one natural state of harmony and its transformation into a higher form. The transition phase between the two states becomes very choppy until the higher form is reached.
ASPECTS THIS WEEK:
Here are my brief interpretations of this week's most important aspects, day by day:
Monday
- Mercury stations direct: Mercury completes its retrograde phase and turns to go direct today. Over the next few days and weeks, as the Messenger Planet picks up speed, it supports us in implementing the creative insights we received as we reviewed and revised our plans over the past three weeks.
- Neptune sextile Sedna: This aspect assists us in rising above old patterns of victimization so that we might choose new levels of spiritual empowerment.
- Saturn sextile Uranus: Slow but steady progress, and gradual implementation of innovative ideas, are supported with this aspect.
- Venus conjunct Jupiter: We might feel especially sensitive, indulgent, or nostalgic today. Relationships can be enhanced or even initiated as Jupiter magnifies Venus's need to love and be loved. With this alignment in Cancer, some might be drawn to buy items that give them a feeling of comfort and safety. In general, people tend to be open-hearted, empathetic, and eager to connect with that which feels nurturing and emotionally supportive. One caution with this conjunction is to be aware of over-indulgence, going overboard with food, love, or purchases.
Tuesday
-
No major aspects are exact today.
Wednesday
-
Venus semisquare Uranus: After the great desire to connect represented by Monday's Venus-Jupiter conjunction, this aspect reminds us that we still want to maintain our freedoms and our individuality.
Thursday
- Jupiter conjunct Sirius: While the energies of the Jupiter-Sirius alignment may be strongest today, we are able to tap into them throughout the month of August.
- Venus square Ceres, Venus semisquare Sedna: We might feel resistance to a loved one who represents a parental influence in our lives.
- Mercury sextile Mars: Due to the dance of the planets as Mercury picks up speed after going direct, this sextile is exact both today and Sunday, and will be in effect throughout this four-day period. This influence is great for brainstorming creative ideas, especially with a partner.
Friday
-
Venus trine North Node: We are intuitively sensitive and may feel especially caring and compassionate with this aspect.
Saturday
-
No major aspects are exact today.
Sunday
- Mercury sextile Mars: Ideas that have been brewing over the past few days may spring to life now.
IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK:
There is potential for healing on many levels this year, if you choose to take advantage of the opportunities that will certainly arise. As a result of your decision to prioritize personal self-growth, you experience a significant increase in self-confidence and in your ability to assert yourself in healthy ways. You also have an opportunity to heal relationships with family members, as well as support in nurturing your internal relationships, with your inner family. (Solar Return Sun trine Chiron, trine Eris, trine Ceres)
In peace, love, and gratitude,
Pam
