Full Moon Meditation Series - Aries

Aries - Full Moon Meditation

«I step forth and rule from the plane of thought.»
(March 21 - April 20)

Introduction

This full moon meditation series is based on an astrological interpretation of the twelve labors of Hercules from the Greek myth.

The twelve tasks of Hercules are symbolic lessons for every human from the way of selfishness back to the Heart of God. As mortals we do not exactly know the way to the higher worlds but the path itself knows and leads us through sometimes dramatic experiences to our goal. So we travel "on the path until we become that path", from Aries through all the astrological signs to Pisces.

In Aries hope sets the standard tone. First comes the premonition, later the certain knowledge; eventually we recognize the same soul light in every human until we finally see the light of God everywhere.

Abstract

The astrological year starts with the sign of Aries and Hercules is called from his own inner light to his first task.

Go, rescue the land and those who live upon it from the wild horses and fierce mares who ravage up and down, wreaking great damage.

Hercules is jubilant, calls for help to his friend Abderis and together they follow the horses zealously. Finally, they corner the wild mares within a field and tether them. Hercules yells with joy at the success achieved and asks Abderis to drive the horses to the gate. Then he turns his back pridefully and marches on. But Abderis is weak and fears the task. He can not hold the mares and they kill him underfoot and escape into the wild lands.

So Hercules has to start over, grief-stricken and discouraged. Again he catches the horses after a strenuous effort and this time he drives them through the gate himself. But Abderis lies dead.

Explanation

In this story we can regard Hercules as a personality in contact with his soul; his friend Abderis as a lesser trained worker and the wild horses as the mighty but uncontrolled thoughts of the developed human being. To rule over the thoughts is a job we all have sooner or later to master when our thinking gets stronger. For most of us it is difficult to imagine that the mind (where the thoughts originate) is just a tool for the soul but that we as humans are in reality separate from the mind and its thoughts. We often say "It came to my mind", an expression which illustrates the concept that there are two - the thought and the thinker. To gain thought control we need to identify ourselves with the soul aspect and not with the thoughts and feelings of our daily life. Only the soul on its own high level is able to control the thoughts, the other personality aspects are too weak to carry out this task.

Thought is far more than we presume: There is the capacity for thought, the ability to think, the talent loaned to us as mortals which will transform us in the end to become illumined. Then there is the thinker, i.e. that which thinks in us. Added to the two is the quality of the accessible thought material. To recognize this threefold scheme, the mind (the vessel), the thinker (with the soul as its higher aspect) and the thought form (the building material) is fundamental because the way we think is the way we are. Bad thoughts form bad habits like good thoughts enlighten our lives. On the path we have to accept blind and without practise the task lying before us but we must become responsible for ourselves. Control of thoughts and the recognition of its origin is not an easy task; only through constant and honest endeavor will we reach our goal of becoming the ruler of ourselves. Only then can we recognize, use and radiate the inner energies of love and power.

Meditation on the seed thought of the month

  1. Remain in silence for some minutes.
  2. Sing three times: OM.
  3. Ponder upon the seed thought for 3 to 5 minutes:
«I step forth and rule from the plane of thought.»
  4. Recite the following mantra:
I am a point of light within a greater light.
I am a strand of loving energy within the stream of love divine.
I am a point of sacrificial fire, focused within the fiery will of God.
    And thus I stand
    .
  5. Sing again three times: OM.
  6. Recite three times: May all living beings in all the worlds be happy.
  7. Remain in silence for three minutes, than end with:
    Peace, Peace, Peace.
