Venus leaves sensitive Cancer at 11:30 am PDT on August 11 and enters dynamically dramatically expressive Leo, where it stays until it enters precise and somewhat fussy Virgo on September 5. What does Venus’ passage through Leo hold for all of us?

In May, we had the dynamic “ready, fire, aim” impulsive genuineness of Venus in Aries, which then led to Venus in its steady, enjoyable, and pleasant home in Taurus through the Solstice. We then spent 4 weeks with Venus in the exploratory Air of Gemini, and up to now, 4 weeks in the sensitive, kind, caring sign of Cancer. We now move into a different groove in the Venus ruled areas of our lives to value and express a more dramatic, dynamic, theatrical dance in Leo. This reorients our current social instincts away from feelings into inspiration and heartfelt spontaneity!

To give a brief recap of what we’ve been through since April, while Venus in Pisces feels everything there is to feel, and Venus in Aries feels only what is immediate and passing, leaping forward into relationships and quick to like and “unlike” things, Venus in Taurus savors each moment. Venus in Taurus is as self-motivated as Venus in Aries while having a whole lot more fun enjoying the ride! Venus in Taurus likes what it likes and is not inclined to try new things unless they’re easy and pleasant. While Venus in Aries is highly agitated, Venus in Taurus likes comfort and ease. While Venus in Aries is “built for speed,” Venus in Taurus is “built for comfort.”

When Venus was in Gemini, it began a new “pulse,” and we experienced a more curious, playful, open and adaptable approach to our likes, loves, and fancies. Venus in Gemini gives a “love of learning,” a love of exploring all the ideas there are to explore which capture the imagination. It is good with words and ideas, constantly solving the infinite puzzles of information and how to put it together. It brings more flexibility and adaptability than Venus in Taurus, which Is secure in its own steady inertia.

Venus in Cancer loves a deeper, more tender connection with people and experience. While it is VERY sensitive, it is also the most caring placement for Venus, because it rules Taurus, the exaltation of the Moon. The Moon does well in Venus signs, and Venus does well in Lunar signs (I include Leo, as the Moon is the spiritual ruler of Leo, as I explain in Saturn, Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend.

Venus entering Leo takes the introversion and sensitivity of Cancer and turns it outward in creative and dramatic forms of expression. This brings the next shift in the energy of planets and houses we have in Taurus and Libra. Whereas Gemini opened an exploration of all we stabilized in Taurus, and Cancer began a deeper connection with the discoveries which matter and a turning away from all which doesn’t help us secure the new conditions, Venus in Leo brings more spontaneity, combustion, and release in the realm of relationships. Now that Venus in Cancer helped us feel our “spiritual family,” Leo allows us a more natural creativity and play with the people in our lives.

We learned a lot about new Venusian likes, values, and the social promise in Gemini, and in Cancer got to secure those things in our lives in ways which nurture us and allow us to have deeper relationships. Leo gives us a new enthusiasm and sense of heartfelt liking and loving of things and people, so use the next few weeks to find a new value and/or appreciation for what expands and enlivens your heart! Venus in Leo is good for all things related to creativity, play, and being wholehearted in our relationships.

We’ve already experienced this year’s Leo energies via the Sun and Mercury. This opens a new era of the release of our inspiration which will activate in dynamic ways when Mars transits Leo between late May and mid-July 2023, after which Venus enters Leo again, eventually going stationary retrograde at 29 Leo in late July.

Venus in Leo harmonizes with Venus in the Fire and Air signs, and brings those with Venus in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius to a turning point in their relationships. Obviously, when Venus comes to visit your Sun, you could find yourself beholding something or someone of great beauty or value who can illuminate you in Venusian ways. Because it is the backdrop to how planets in Taurus and Libra express themselves, if things move away from tender to dynamic and expressive, open to the play, since you may find yourself having more fun than you imagine, and may have the ability to create some great things with or for others which are perfect for both of you!

So welcome to the gateway to a new Venusian experience which will lead us to a more measured, precise, humble and practical social expression once it enters Virgo on September 5. As our Venus response evolves, we have the capability to enjoy the subtle pleasures in life to the fullest. No longer over-indulgent or self-denying, we can choose what to like and find a rich appreciation for the banquet of life experiences which are ours for the enjoying!

Venus’ duality is Wisdom/Folly. By our Venus responses, we are led out of erroneous values, vanities, and ways of interacting into the wisdom of “Right Relationship.” In esoteric philosophy, Venus is said to be the elder sister of the Earth, so perhaps our Venus shows us how to refine what is of value and leave the superficial and vain imaginings of the ego behind, just as humanity is learning globally at this time in history. Venus is definitely part of the equation in our personal and interpersonal happiness.
