Venus leaves precise, practical, and fussy Virgo at 12:49 am PDT on September 29 and enters its home sign of elegant, idealistic, and beautiful Libra, where it stays until it enters intensely magnetic Scorpio on October 23. What does Venus’ passage through Libra hold for all of us?

In May, we had the dynamic “ready, fire, aim” impulsive genuineness of Venus in Aries, which then led to Venus in its steady, enjoyable, and pleasant home in Taurus through the Solstice. We then spent 4 weeks with Venus in the exploratory Air of Gemini, 4 weeks in the sensitive, kind, caring sign of Cancer, 4 weeks in dramatic and expressive Leo, and up to now, 4 weeks in fussy practical Virgo. We now move into a different groove in the Venus ruled areas of our lives to value and express a more balanced, pleasing, interactive quality in Libra. This reorients our current social instincts away from humility and service to creating just and fair conditions and a well-rounded understanding.

To give a brief recap of what we’ve been through since April, while Venus in Pisces feels everything there is to feel, and Venus in Aries feels only what is immediate and passing, leaping forward into relationships and quick to like and “unlike” things, Venus in Taurus savors each moment. Venus in Taurus likes what it likes and is not inclined to try new things unless they’re easy and pleasant. While Venus in Aries is highly agitated, Venus in Taurus likes comfort and ease.

When Venus was in Gemini, it began a new “pulse,” and we experienced a more curious, playful, open and adaptable approach to our likes, loves, and fancies. Venus in Gemini gives a “love of learning,” a love of exploring all the ideas there are to explore which capture the imagination. It is good with words and ideas, constantly solving the infinite puzzles of information and how to put it together. We learned new Venusian likes, values, and the social promise in Gemini, and in Cancer got to secure what nurtured us and allowed us to have deeper relationships.

Venus in Cancer loves a deep, tender connection with people and experience. While it is VERY sensitive, it is also the most caring placement for Venus, because it rules Taurus, the exaltation of the Moon. The Moon does well in Venus signs, and Venus does well in Lunar signs (I include Leo, as the Moon is the spiritual ruler of Leo, as I explain in Saturn, Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend.

Venus in Leo began a new pulse, and took the introversion and sensitivity of Cancer and turned it outward in creative and dramatic forms of expression. Venus in Virgo completed this dual pulse by learning to value expressing “significant form” and “divine Discernment.” Leo gave us a new enthusiasm and sense of heartfelt liking and loving of things and people, and Virgo helped us find the place and function of each detail in our lives.

This brings the next shift in the energy of planets and houses we have in Taurus and Libra. Venus in Libra brings a new perspective or value to whatever it touches, evaluating it for balance and ways to make the form more pleasing. It seeks beauty, symmetry, fresh interests, and comfort. Use the next few weeks to find a new value and/or appreciation for those who helped you see the beauty all around you, or who can open you to a more ideal view of life and the world. Venus in Libra is good for making things more elegant, beautiful, and balanced.

We’ve already experienced this year’s Libra energies via Mercury’s stay in that sign between August 25 and September 23, with the Sun entering Libra on the September 22 Equinox. What we experience through the lens of Venus these next 4 weeks will get another look by Mercury when it returns to Libra on October 10 and remains in that sign until October 29. A lot of things set into motion during this time will activate in dynamic ways when Mars transits Libra between late August and mid-October 2023. As Venus will be RX and direct in Leo for most of that transit, that Mars expression will have a distinctly Leo flavor.

Venus in Libra is extremely powerful in its home sign, and harmonizes with Venus in the Fire and Air signs, and brings those with Venus in Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn to a turning point in their relationships. As it’s in its home, it is a natural placement, and in harmony with itself. That said, it is in a quincunx to Taurus, the other sign it rules. So Venus in Libra is in its own 1st house, as well as its own 6th house, helping it adjust values and resources to bring forth beauty or fair conditions.

It should be good for people with Sun in Libra, because when Venus comes to visit your Sun, you could find yourself beholding something or someone of great beauty or value who can illuminate you in Venusian ways. Because it is the backdrop to how planets in Taurus and Libra express themselves, if things move away from the Virgo analytical tendencies to more balanced, light, and beautiful dances, open to the play, since you may find yourself surrounded by beauty, and may have the ability to help others see their own beauty.

So welcome to the gateway to a new Venusian experience which will lead us to a greater enjoyment of life and the beauty all around us. After this phase, once it enters Scorpio in late October, it’ll be in a sign of “exile” and extremely intense feelings and interactions which will require detachment and non-possessiveness. As our Venus response evolves, we have the capability to enjoy the subtle pleasures in life to the fullest. No longer over-indulgent or self-denying, we can choose what to like and find a rich appreciation for the banquet of life experiences which are ours for the enjoying!

Venus’ duality is Wisdom/Folly. By our Venus responses, we are led out of erroneous values, vanities, and ways of interacting into the wisdom of “Right Relationship.” In esoteric philosophy, Venus is said to be the elder sister of the Earth, so perhaps our Venus shows us how to refine what is of value and leave the superficial and vain imaginings of the ego behind, just as humanity is learning globally at this time in history. Venus is definitely part of the equation in our personal and interpersonal happiness.
