Kahlil Gibran: Your Children Are Not Your Children

Kahlil Gibran: Your Children Are Not Your Children

It hurts when they need to grow wings, an exhilarating pain fills your chest, like you're missing out on the chance to care for and protect them, but it's the cycle of life.

We must raise children for the world and not for ourselves.

Humans were created to reproduce, according to the bible, our purpose on earth is to procreate to leave a legacy in the world when it comes time to leave. Being a father or mother is an act of courage, you need to take all your learning and deposit in a new life.

Children are our fruit, our hope and our devotion, but they must be raised to live alone; to be a father is to live with the constant fear of being wrong in some teaching, attitude or way of speaking, as parents are the only references of their children.

It's tiring to make people like your way, trying to fit in with a child's demands is not an easy task either, everyone has their own way of showing love and affection and, even if you're not perfect, you're still responsible for he be present here on Earth.

But those who think that the child grows according to the father's wishes are wrong. Every child is born predestined for their future, parents may even try to interfere and change some things here and there, but the child will always know their true desire. There is always that father who wants his son to become a great doctor or pursue the profession of his dreams, but who decides all his steps is himself.

Parents have a moral obligation to prepare their child for the world, and to always be available to be their safe haven. Children need to learn from experience and not from the theory about the values of life, they follow their own flows, often make wrong choices and bear the consequences, but only then can they learn and make new choices, this time, seeking only the success.

Children must also achieve their own victories and not get hung up on the achievements of those who came before, while parents must be available and let their children make their own choices in both personal and professional life.

It hurts when they need to grow wings, an exhilarating pain fills your chest, like you're missing out on the chance to care for and protect them, but it's the cycle of life. They need to break into the world full of opportunities that await them. You, father, mother, did your part, prepared them as best you could, educated them as you could.

The world is critical, people tend to judge their way of upbringing and blame them for wrong choices made by their descendants, that is, when something bad happens to the child, it is society's custom to blame the parents, attributing to them bad upbringing or something like that, forgetting that children do not come with an instruction manual, parents learn the best way to raise them in their daily lives, listening to the teachings of their elders and following their instincts.

Parents, relax, take the weight off your back and live life, you managed to accomplish one of the tasks considered the most difficult by man: to educate and teach a child. Be grateful for the chance to look someone in the eye and know that they will take a part of you wherever they go and that they have a home to return to if their goals are not met, this is the best feeling you can give to a son.

Empathy and affection are worth more than all the money in the world. Enjoy while there is still time, children are not eternal, as parents are not. Love today, not only use the word love, but show that unique and beautiful feeling that always prevails in the end.
