Fruit Will Save the World – Dr. Douglas Graham Tells Us How

An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor, World Hunger, Global Warming, and War Away?

Looking for the answer to improving your health, lowering your carbon footprint, solving world hunger, and creating peace on earth? According to Dr. Douglas Graham the answer is simple: Fruit.

Personally, I love crisp apples in the fall and cool watermelon in the summer, but how is fruit going to save the world? Let’s start with the most obvious effect: better health. As a society we eat a lot of foods that we aren’t built to digest, thus our hormones get thrown out of balance. The hormonal shift causes problems such as depression, heart disease, and cancer to name a few. By reducing these unhealthy foods and going back to basic raw foods we slowly rein our hormones back into balance reducing our risk of illness and disease.

Next, let’s reduce that carbon footprint. According to a 2006 report released by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the meat industry produces between 14 and 22 percent of the world’s greenhouse gases each year. In 2009 Scientific American translated that to this alarming fact: In terms of greenhouse gas emissions, producing half a pound of hamburger, a single patty of meat the size of two decks of cards, is equivalent to driving a 3,000-pound car nearly 10 miles. If the world switched to a raw diet, including more fruit, we’d be better off environmentally.

In that same vein, growing and raising food and animals for the standard western diet uses 100 times more land than it would for a standard raw diet. Basically we could grow a lot more food on a lot less land, freeing up a great deal of open space.

Lastly, Dr. Graham makes the argument that not killing animals for food, supporting factory farming, or ingesting chemicals used on commercial farms leads to eating peacefully. Eating peacefully creates peaceful living, thus reducing violence. There you have it: World Peace.

Maybe that’s a lot to ask of a tasty, healthy, snack. If there’s any chance though, I’m happy to do my part and increase my fruit intake.

If you are worried about the environment, if you want to see an Earth abundant with life, if you desire a world that is peaceful, then fruit is your savior.

By simply eating sweet, juicy, delicious fruits and vegetables, we place ourselves back in alignment with our natural ecology. This seemingly simple solution to saving the world, has far reaching effects on the animals, the flora, the oxygen availability, the quality of our food, human health, fuel emissions, and on and on.

If you consider yourself an environmentally conscious human being, then it's high time you adopt a diet and lifestyle that reflects this consciousness. Eat your fruits and vegetables!
