Your Mental Health Can Benefit From A Ketogenic Diet

The ketogenic diet is considered controversial by many people. Some people are against it and others claim that it is the holy grail of weight loss.

Basically, this type of diet is designed to be low carb (it depends on how one plans the meal). It is a way of eating that can be very beneficial if done correctly. The things we eat have a major impact on our health, and in this case, our mental health is one of the things that can make a big difference.

A low-carb diet essentially lowers blood sugar and insulin levels, causing the body to turn to fat as an energy source. Our body then goes into a fat-burning mode known as ketosis, which many people fear could do more harm than good. Still, it can be just what some people need to help with things like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and even anxiety.

There are quite a few studies, one of which is from 2013 , which states that the ketogenic diet helps to stabilize the moods of those involved. In fact, they were able to surpass the results they had achieved with medication alone. This is a shocking finding, but of course it is still in the early stages of research.

There are studies on the ketogenic diet and many different psychiatric disorders that show good results. One of them , from 2009 , which was performed on an overweight woman suffering from schizophrenia, noted a significant improvement in her symptoms. Reports even state the complete disappearance of her hallucinations.

While there is no hard evidence that this will work for all people, it has been shown to be quite a promising method that could even suppress epileptic seizures in children. Studies on things like this are not easy to get right and there are many other factors to consider. Overall, however, it appears that a low-carb diet may be more beneficial than we think.
