I channeled this song somewhere in the depths of a forest close to Mount Fuji, Japan. I was walking through the forest, surrounded by ancient trees, when I came close to one of them and felt a very clear presence. I stayed there for a while, listening, and the tree began to speak to me. Then the tree spoke to me. We spend so much time searching for God, for awakening, for higher dimensions, for something beyond this world, while the Divine keeps expressing itself through this world. Through the trees, the rivers, our bodies, the rain, the birds, the people we love, the food we taste, and the simple pleasure of being alive. And then came the funny, beautiful thought: God is still making strawberries. I smiled. Because perhaps we sometimes become so serious about awakening that we forget to actually experience the creation we came here to experience. When I returned, I sat with the message I had received and allowed the words to come. The song grew naturally from that encounter with the tree, from my journey through Japan, and from something I have been feeling more and more deeply lately: spirituality can also be a profound intimacy with life. To listen more deeply. To touch and allow ourselves to be touched. To taste. To laugh. To love. To feel the rain on our skin. To become so present that the ordinary reveals itself as sacred. This song is a reminder that perhaps heaven was never somewhere else. Perhaps awakening is also learning to open our senses, our hearts, and our whole being to the extraordinary experience of being here. Because God is still making strawberries.

God Is Still Making Strawberries

I climbed the mountain looking for heaven,
I closed my eyes to find the light,
I searched for God inside the silence,
Through endless days and sleepless nights.

Then morning came without an answer,
A little bird sat next to me,
The wind moved softly through the branches,
And dropped a strawberry at my feet.

And something in me started laughing,
Like I had missed the greatest clue,
I’d spent my whole life seeking heaven,
While heaven kept on breaking through.

And God is still making strawberries,
Still teaching the rivers to run,
Still painting the wings of the butterflies,
Still setting fire to the sun.
Still hiding in kisses and thunderstorms,
In bodies, in blossoms, in bliss,
Maybe heaven was never elsewhere,
Maybe awakening is this.

I thought the sacred lived in temples,
In ancient books and whispered prayers,
Then I felt rain upon my shoulders,
And found the whole universe there.

I heard God laughing in the ocean,
I felt God dancing in my skin,
I tasted eternity in peaches,
And let the whole creation in.

And something in me started opening,
A door I never knew was there,
The world became a living altar,
And every breath became a prayer.

What if the body is a doorway?
What if pleasure teaches grace?
What if every time we truly touch,
We touch the mystery face to face?

What if God became the flowers
Just to know the morning dew?
What if God became a million eyes
To see creation through?

So eat the peach.
Dance in the rain.
Kiss someone slowly.
Feel everything.
Swim in the river.
Lie under the trees.
Maybe enlightenment sometimes
Is getting grass stains on your knees.

Because God is still making strawberries,
Still teaching the rivers to run,
Still painting impossible sunsets,
Still setting fire to the sun.
Still dreaming through lovers and lunatics,
Through whales and wildflowers and trees,
Maybe God never wanted escaping,
Maybe God wanted to feel and to be.

And God is still making strawberries,
Still making mornings like this.
Maybe heaven was never elsewhere.
Maybe awakening...
Is this.
