On May 29 Mars conjuncts Jupiter at 4 Aries, a degree of a technique to enjoy life by simply BEING who we are. What does this hold for us?

First, it completes the last Mars/Jupiter cycle which began in March 2020 at 23 Capricorn, a degree of getting rewards for discharging our duty with diligence and nobility under abnormal circumstances. Since then we’ve received forms of recognition related to taking on those responsibilities. As Saturn ruled that conjunction and was at the last degree of Capricorn, it emphasized our ability to take our place in the exercise of individual power within collective circumstances.

Of extraordinary importance is that the Sun, Mercury, and Saturn all conjuncted Pluto at 23 Capricorn in January 2020. That set several important cycles into motion, where the activation by Mars in March 2020 of the expansive principle (Jupiter) set those long wave January conjunctions into play these past 2+ years. Now that Mars/Jupiter cycle is done, even if those long wave cycles involving Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto will still be active for many years to come. This new Mars/Jupiter cycle begins at 4 Aries, and wherever it falls in our charts becomes a “path of opportunity” if we choose to move in those pioneering directions of our own initiative. Because Mars rules this conjunction, expect a LOT of dynamic activities due to this conjunction!

The Sabian Symbol for the Conjunction

The Sabian Symbols for the 4th degree of Aries is “Two lovers strolling through a secluded walk.” In The Astrology of Personality, where Rudhyar uses the original Dr. Jones' class notes on the symbols, 4 Aries is said to be a symbol of “fullness of conscious participation in life without responsibility” and “closing of a cycle of activity, implying satiation.”

We are told in The Astrological Mandala that this degree phase symbolizes "the progressive polarization of energies needed for fulfilling one’s life functions.” He says this has to do with becoming whole so that we can “respond fully to the potentialities released by a sense of identification with a greater Whole,” and provides a polarity of energies needed to “sustain a resonance” to that greater way of life.

He continues that this may involve withdrawing from routine activity, and constitutes a “dynamic and unresolved polarization” so we may better function in a dualistic world. He says it falls in the span of Realization, and it’s the penultimate (technique) degree in the actional level of the scene of Desire in the Act of Differentiation.

According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, this degree is one of “the first innocent rounding out of conscious experiences, and of an unspoiled assurance of personal potentialities for which no immediate sense of responsibility is necessary.” He states that “reality is ever without meaning or power except as it stimulates the self to move in its own interest persistently and continuously whenever the least opportunity offers.”

He offers us the keyword ENJOYMENT. He states when operating in a positive manner, this degree “an utterly naïve assimilation of self into its world and a complete flow of all effort towards some proper end.”

From this symbol we can see the next 2 years will bring opportunities, truths, adventures, and openings which involve techniques of closing old cycles of activity, showing us new ways to be polarized related to the dualities we’ll be dealing with. It implies our experience will be “rounded out” wherever we have 4 Aries, and we’ll be stimulated to new interests without a lot of responsibilities.

This is a renewal of spontaneity and the call for direct action in some individual way, so be a little restrained and patient for the next two years, since this conjunction in Aries is off to the races! This is focused on the actional-material levels of existence, and brings us out of the social-emotional focus on group work of the last conjunction and moves us into pure “Is-Be-Ness” of the here and now. We’ve received rewards for doing what we had to do, and now more into the pure potential of a greater enjoyment of life on our own terms as we act to further new opportunities.

This gives us all a technique to take the initiative on our own impulse and not wait for orders or directions. There are adventures and great enjoyment for those who can act on their own behalf, so take control of the process of your infinite Self-unfoldment, step up to the plate, and show the world your skill and expertise!
