Joyous Repair and Reconstruction of the Past to Finish Old Business.

Yes, we’ve ended one Sun-Mars cycle and begun a new one! And because of the Mercury retrograde conjunct both at this time, we have a two degree theme in play for the next two years combining both 16 and 17 Libra.

The current Sun conjunction with Mars happens 9:01 pm PDT October 7 at 16 Libra. The last Sun conjunct Mars occurred in early September 2019 at 10 Virgo. That has been the dominant theme since then, with the Sun opposed Mars happening in October 2020 with the Sun at 22 Libra and Mars at 22 Aries. We now begin a new two year theme related to the Sun-Mars conjunction at 16 Libra, coupled with Mercury RX conjunct both at 17 Libra. The next opposition with come when the Sun is at 17 Sagittarius and Mars is at 17 Gemini in early December 2022.

The current clustering of Sun, Mercury, and Mars brings the rulers of our Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, and Scorpio sectors together wherever we have mid-Libra in our Charts. The first two degrees of the second half of Libra indicate the theme for the span as well as the counterpoint to the theme of the span.

The degree of the Sun/Mars conjunction involves the theme of “reconstruction,” which can mean repair or reconstructing how things came to be a certain way for self of others. The degree of the Inferior conjunction involves contemplating old dramas we’ve retired from, and finding peace in the overcoming of those storms. This conjunction falls at 16 Libra, and it is said that the second third (decan) of any sign deals with the social, emotional, and cultural levels of life, and being the second decan of Libra it has a sub-influence of Aquarius with an added dose of Saturn. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.

The Sabian Symbol for the 16th degree of Libra is “A boat landing washed away.” In the original notes from the Marc Jones class on the symbols published in The Astrology of Personality, Rudhyar says this is a degree of “constructive results of apparently destructive forces,” “stimulation to new accomplishment,” and “glad response to needed work.”

In The Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves “the need to keep in operation steady links between the vast Unconscious and the ego-consciousness, where we confront “broad issues of relationship and currents of energies released by … contact with archetypal spiritual realities” which may result in forms of destruction. He offers “boats” are symbols of means to travel as well as “draw food from the sea (new realizations … in the realm of the planetary mind) and so represent the means for “venturing far away from consciously defined and socially structured ways of life.”

He states this can turn destructive, as are “points of contact between the vast Unconscious and the ego-consciousness molded by cultural assumption.” These then require a slow reconstruction of damage from “cosmic forces” which require repair. He says it falls in the span of Revelation, and it’s the first degree of the actional-material level of the scene of Reconstruction in the Act of Group Integration.

According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, the degree is one of “the superficially unfriendly relations which exist between (we as people) and the totally impersonal forces of nature. He says this “emphasizes the cosmic integrity as a continual attempt on the part of its overall ordering to restore each phase of reality to pristine conditions.” He offers this is not about “thwarting human effort” but is “a stimulation to new accomplishment, and a freedom from whatever has exceeded its usefulness.”

He continues that this degree is “a challenge to pure individuality.” He gives us the keyword of RESPITE, and states when operating in a positive manner, the degree is “a joy in bringing every self-competence to the recurrent emergencies of life.”

So the specific theme of the coming two years involves us repairing and/or reconstructing things from the past which are a result of maladjustments between humanity and Nature. We’ll all be doing some sort of needed repair work wherever we have mid-Libra in our chart.
