Themes for the year of 2022 Part 1

The Long Goodbye and a Short Hello.

2022 is a mixed year, combining the past and the future as competing energies overlap at the dawning of a new 20 Aquarian era. We’ve now ended a 200 year Earth era, when all the Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions except one have been in Earth sign. The December 2020 Grand Mutation conjunction at 1 Aquarius began a new 200 year Air sign dominance in human history, which we last knew in the 13th and 14th centuries. We now pick up where we left off in the early 15th century with the first Air sign conjunction since 1405.

In 2019 and 2020 we built Capricorn structures which will serve us for many years to come. In 2021/2022 we’re use those structures to create a better world, a better future, and a better view of a greater good. This year continues several years of Great Compressions in Capricorn and Aquarius, again concentrating all the planetary energies in a short span which is the main area occupying our attention. Taken together, all the conjunctions indicate where the span of 23 Cap-1 Aquarius falls in our charts is the focus for many years to come.

This year will be of two qualities: the first third, with Jupiter in Pisces conjunct Neptune, the last of the Neptunian expansions of the previous Age, lasting until 2035, when Jupiter conjuncts Neptune in Aries. This dominates the first third of 2022. Then Jupiter enters Aries, furthering the Grand Mutation at 1 Aquarius which ended a 200 year Earth sub-era. We have now entered a 200 year Air era, with the next 19 years Aquarian. As Pluto will enter Aquarius in a few hundred days, and occupy it for decades, simultaneously occurring in 2025 with Neptune entering Aries and Uranus entering Gemini, we have an extraordinarily productive period coming despite the larger tension.

As we begin the year

In 2021, Jupiter’s transit of Aquarius heralded what Saturn will crystallize in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Jupiter paved the way through the shared vision of Aquarius until it moved into Pisces between mid-May and late July, giving us a glimpse of the rebirth of compassion, empathy, and shared feelings within a larger sense of the whole world and human race which is the feature of the first four months of 2022, as well as the end of the year when Jupiter briefly ducks back into “the end of the end of the zodiac,” indicating a lot of closure while it’s in Pisces with new openings promised by Jupiter’s initial entry into Aries this year.

The big news is that in February, March, and April there a rapid expansion into a new collective atmosphere when Jupiter conjuncts Neptune. While some associate that with floods or epidemics, it could also promise a huge emotional release for the entire human race, with millions opening to a new empathic connection with collective consciousness, the Earth, and life itself. Given the favorable sextile to Pluto, this shows a productive reorganization of the collective atmosphere opening a greater compassion with many things ending quickly.

Numerous short and long term Capricorn and Aquarian cycles have been set into motion in January and continue into February as Mercury, the Sun, Venus and Mars all transit the Capricorn and Aquarian cycles set into motion in 2020. This year’s compression also sees Venus conjunct Mars at 1 Aquarius, giving new life and substance to the major changes set into motion at the Grand Mutation.

Speaking of Mars and Jupiter

They began this cycle in March 2020 in late Capricorn, and in January, February, and March, Mars will again transit Capricorn, giving those long wave cycles a new 2 year expression. When Venus and Mars enter Aquarius and transit that sign in March and April, we’ll see new Aquarian manifestations, with the first half of April confirming and activating a new expression of whatever has come forth since we “graduated into a new realm of being” during Jupiter’s three transits of the transfiguration zone at the end of Aquarius in 2021, opening us to trans-“Great Age” energy.

When Jupiter enters Aries in May, it begins a new self-initiated expression of greater truths for all of us wherever we have early Aries in our charts. This also heralds Neptune’s entry into early Aries in 2025, foreshadowing where collective consciousness is heading. Pay special attention between October 28 and December 20 this year, since Jupiter will occupy the last two degrees of Pisces, the same span Neptune will occupy between April 2024 and March 2025, giving us a glimpse of things to come.

In January 2022, Mars is in mid-Sagittarius. It moves through Capricorn from late January through early March, putting pressure on the Cardinal signs. It moves through Aquarius from early March through mid-April, putting pressure on the Fixed signs, and when in Pisces from mid-April through late May it puts pressure on the Mutable signs. It then enters Aries and conjuncts Jupiter at 4 Aries, opening a 2 year cycle wherever that falls in our charts. Mars enters Taurus in early July and Gemini in late August, when it begins to crash into retrograde in Gemini, where it occupies until late March 2023, repeating the various Modal pressure listed above.

Where Mars transits our charts, new initiatives, or a need to “attack the problems of life,” or even deal with agitation or aggravation will come forth in that area of our chart. A Mars transit over a planet indicates the end of a 2 year cycle and beginning of a new one. Wherever you have Sagittarius through Gemini will be activated by Mars this year.

Most of 2022 Mars will be inside the span occupied by the outer planets. This means it re-sets its 2 year cycle with Pluto in early March, with Saturn in early April, with Neptune in mid-May, with Jupiter in late May, and with Uranus in early August. Because it goes retrograde in Gemini, 2022 is a year with no Mars oppositions to any outer planet, even though there will be oppositions from the Sun, Mercury, and Venus in Sagittarius when Mars is retrograde in Gemini.

Eclipses

This year we have the usual 4 Eclipses. The first is the April 30 Partial Solar Eclipse at 11 Taurus. This isn’t visible many places on Earth.

Then, just two weeks later, on May 16 we have a Total Lunar eclipse at 26 Taurus/Scorpio. This will be visible in the Americas, Europe, and Africa. The whole eclipse will be visible east of a line from El Paso to Minnesota, eastern Canada, and all of Central and South America in the evening. It’ll be visible at Moonrise west of the line from El Paso to Minnesota and Moonset in Europe and Africa. On October 25 we have a Partial Solar Eclipse at 2 Scorpio. It is visible only in Europe, NE Africa, and W. Asia.

The November 8 Total Lunar Eclipse at 17 Scorpio/Taurus is visible in the Americas, Asia, Australia, and the Pacific. The whole eclipse is visible in Japan, NZ, Siberia, Manchuria, and all of the US and Canada west of a line running from Baja, east AZ, SE Wyoming up to North Dakota. It’s visible at Moonset in the rest of the US, eastern Canada, all of Central America and South America. It is visible at Moonrise in Iran, India, China, SE Asia, the Philippines, and Australia.

In part 2, we’ll examine the 2022 spiritual field, Mercury retrograde themes throughout the year, points of major choices and changes, and times when there may be more friction than usual.
