After spending nearly four weeks in the sign of her fall, sensuous seafoam siren Venus picks up dignity on October 28, coming home to the sultry hallways of Libra… and to the onerous interference of Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto, activating a further wave of the ongoing Cardinal T-Square configuration.  

Reimagining connectedness and re-centering pleasure in our existence while the rotting underbelly of our societal structure is being exposed and a second wave of Coronavirus cases threatens to swarm Europe (I mention Europe because that’s where I live), can feel futile, if not disingenuous. The truth is — there has never been a time when reformulating relationships and social connections was as essential as it is now.

Who more than Venus, sovereign in her lofty temple, can act as a catalyst for repatterning equality — for rebalancing exchanges between ourselves and others, tipping the scales of Maat with the weight of our hearts, turning like sunflowers towards the kind of love that allows us to dream new worlds into being?

What if the kind of love we thought we knew and wanted has morphed and transformed along with ourselves as we stepped through the fire this year has been? What if the love we assumed we knew has slipped through the cracks? What if our very definition of love has broadened and love as a verb has acquired new declensions?

Maybe, as Venus enters Libra, it’s time to engage in a heartfelt conversation with the Lesser Benefic about love as justice, boundaries as containers for our rebirth, fairness as currency. About the connections in our life that need to be rebalanced, much like October’s New Moon in Libra urged us to do. About what we’re putting out vs. what we’re getting in return — who and what holds us without demanding that we sanitize our rage and grief away? Who sees and honours us as the uncontainable beings that we are? Or, to quote Bell Hooks, “how do we hold people accountable for wrongdoing and yet at the same time remain in touch with their humanity enough to believe in their capacity to be transformed?”.

It’s going to be a tough haul for Venus, but you can’t take love out of her. You can’t eradicate love out of yourself, no matter how hard you try, not even during the darkest times. And it’s during these times that you deserve a love that redeems you, balances you, and guides you home. Within, without, all around.

Love is necessary. Love is justice. As Venus transits through Libra, strive to love yourself and others fairly.
