America's Environment: Responsible Stewardship, Innovation, and Prosperity
America leads the world in environmental progress through American ingenuity, scientific management, and the dedication of its citizens and sportsmen. Our nation has cleaned its air and water, conserved wildlife, achieved energy independence, and balanced responsible resource use with economic strength.
The State of America's Environment: Real Progress and Leadership
The United States has achieved remarkable environmental improvements. Since the Clean Air Act of 1970 and advancements by American innovators, air quality has improved dramatically. Key pollutants have declined sharply: carbon monoxide by 88%, nitrogen dioxide by 68%, ozone by 26%, and lead by 87% (1980-2023 data). These gains occurred while U.S. GDP grew by hundreds of percent, proving that economic growth and environmental progress go hand in hand under smart, science-based policies.
U.S. forest land has remained relatively stable for over a century, covering about 766 million acres or roughly 33% of the nation's land area as of recent assessments, after historical declines stabilized around 1910-1920. Proper forest management, including sustainable harvesting and wildfire prevention through active stewardship, protects these resources and supports rural economies.
American Conservation: Sportsmen as Stewards
Human activity, when guided by responsibility and property rights, drives conservation success. Hunters, anglers, and recreational shooters fund the majority of U.S. wildlife restoration through the Pittman-Robertson Act (1937). This user-pay system levies excise taxes on firearms, ammunition, and archery equipment, generating over $1.2 billion annually in recent years and billions overall for habitat restoration, research, and hunter education.
This model empowers states to manage wildlife effectively, supports rural communities, and exemplifies how private citizens—not heavy-handed bureaucracy—sustain America's natural heritage.
Energy Independence: American Strength and Security
The United States achieved net total energy exporter status in 2019 and has maintained it, driven by record domestic oil and natural gas production. Shale innovation, responsible drilling on federal and private lands, and expanded LNG exports have reduced reliance on foreign energy, lowered prices for American families, created millions of jobs, and strengthened national security.
Reliable, affordable energy from oil, natural gas, and nuclear power underpins manufacturing, technology, and prosperity. America First energy dominance rejects policies that export jobs or weaken our economy in favor of unproven international mandates.
Biodiversity and Wildlife Recovery: Proven American Success
Targeted conservation laws and private efforts have delivered real recoveries. The bald eagle rebounded from about 480 nesting pairs in the lower 48 states in the early 1960s to over 14,000 breeding pairs today. Whooping cranes increased from roughly 50 individuals to around 600 through captive breeding, habitat protection, and partnerships.
The American alligator and other species also recovered, demonstrating that science-based management, habitat restoration, and the Endangered Species Act—when applied judiciously—work without halting economic progress.
Societal Benefits: Growth, Opportunity, and Resilience
A strong economy, energy security, and secure borders enable better environmental stewardship. Resource development funds conservation, creates jobs, and lifts communities. Overregulation and poor forest management (e.g., excessive restrictions leading to catastrophic wildfires in some states) highlight the need for practical, state-led solutions that prioritize safety and prosperity.
Personal responsibility, traditional values, and free-market innovation remain the best path to a cleaner, safer America for future generations.
The Path Forward: American Innovation and Self-Reliance
Solutions lie in American exceptionalism: advancing nuclear power, modernizing infrastructure, promoting responsible resource extraction, improving forest management to prevent wildfires, and supporting conservation through sportsmen programs. Free markets and reduced regulatory burdens spur the technologies that deliver cleaner air, water, and abundant energy.
History proves America adapts and thrives when government enables rather than hinders private enterprise and individual initiative.
Take Action for America's Future
Support policies that prioritize American energy production, secure borders, and state-based conservation. Purchase American-made goods, participate in ethical hunting and fishing, reduce personal waste, and advocate for practical, evidence-based environmental policies that strengthen our nation.
Put America First—our prosperity, security, and natural heritage depend on it.
