A Thanksgiving Turkey Miracle

A Thanksgiving Turkey Tale with Munchie
One Thanksgiving I hosted a potluck dinner at my house.
One of the guests did not realize that most of the guests were vegetarians, and he kindly brought a turkey, which hardly got eaten. Wanting to make the best use of the food, I decided to cut up the leftover portion, refrigerate it, and dole it out in small amounts to my dog Munchie, who was now the most thankful guest at the dinner.
A few weeks later, the turkey meals ran out, and Munchie was visibly disappointed. He had gotten used to being treated royally, and he clearly expected the feasts to continue. But being a vegetarian, I was not inclined to go to Safeway and buy him a turkey. What to do?
Affirmation for the Unexpected
Around that time, while I was driving on a beach highway, I noticed a police car following me. I immediately began to feel nervous, and made sure the glove compartment was locked. (A carry-over from the sixties.) I realized there was nothing to be afraid of, so I created an affirmation: “The police are my friends. They want to help me.” After repeating the affirmation a few times, I felt better, and on I drove.
A few nights later Munchie and I were driving home from a holiday party when I encountered a road block. On Maui, police set up road blocks during the season to check for drunk drivers. An officer pulled me over, and, after a brief interaction, let me go. As I started to roll up my window, Officer Kamalani leaned into the car and asked, “Would you like a turkey?”
I couldn’t believe my ears! “Why would you want to give me a turkey?” I had to ask.
“It’s a reward for drivers who are not drunk,” he replied.
I turned to Munchie, sitting beside me in the passenger’s seat. He wore a very sneaky grin.
“Sure!” I answered.
“Just a minute,” said the officer. He walked to a cooler behind his police car, pulled out a frozen butterball turkey, and delivered it to me. As I thanked him, he spouted, “Hey, wait! Let’s get a picture for the newspaper!”
By this time, the scene was so surreal that I was ready to go along with anything. Officer Kamalani invited me to stand beside him, both of us holding the turkey up like we had just reeled in a 500-pound marlin. His partner, Officer Momia, pulled out a camera as we posed, and grabbed the shot. Meanwhile, a line of drunk drivers were speeding by.
Munchie, the Master Manifester
When the officers finally went back to their duties, I turned to Munchie and told him, “Dude, you are one powerful manifester. You got the cops to give you a turkey!”
Munchie just shrugged his shoulders with a little smirk, as if to say, “I know. I was just waiting for you to catch up.”
Of all my holiday seasons, that was my favorite. Munchie’s too. The new turkey carried him well into the happiest of new years.
May this holiday season bring you many turkeys, metaphorically speaking, and demonstrate to you that the universe can fill all your needs, and manifest your most heartfelt desires in ways far more ingenious and wonderful than you can imagine.
