Why True Self-Acceptance Remains Elusive

“Why we cannot fully accept ourselves.” ~Crystal Wind
We are born. No one is listening. Eventually everyone tells us what to do and not, what is good, what is bad. With no voice yet, nor the ability to discern or truly comprehend we trust that what we are told is the right way.
The right way is society's standards, rules and regulations. A set of cultural and moral beliefs. Identity is set in the environment, and in time it grows on us unquestioned, and we will defend it without having chosen it consciously. If it is familiar it must be good. Or so we think.
No One is Listening
In their eagerness to educate us, parents know best. No one is interested in the rumblings of a child. We have no arguments yet, and no authority, and when we do, there is always a higher authority that overrides our words, inclinations and desires. "We will understand when we are older".
Is there any proof to this argument? Everyone wants to be heard.
Now we have a voice, or so we think.
The Lonely Walk Through the Desert
We are presented with a series of options that mostly benefit employers, the environment and society. Being accepted or not depends on whether character, personality and experience fit their standards. Are you a good team player?
Thus, we become dysfunctionally functional. Dreams and innate talents become a second dish we can have at home every now and then, maybe in organised, smaller environments with other people that share the same passions.
We are not told what to do any longer, but it is implied and followed if we want to be accepted.
Now we have a voice, but it is compromised. The self is not fully there.
The Way Out
There is a force within all of us, which since an early age is directing us towards the life that we are supposed to have. A force that leads us through a spiritual and creative journey. A force that at some point is suppressed and even silenced. There are more important things to do, or so we are told.
It is possible that you told yourself that there will be time in the future.
This force will keep pushing until the essence of our true nature is expressed towards the life we are supposed to live. It is your true voice, and one that when expressed, brings more relief and fulfillment than anyone ever listening to you ever will. The one that truly listens is within. Until we realise where and who the listener is, all we can do is scream to a multitude that just wants to be heard, like the child screams to their parents.
It is not simply the fulfillment that something is accomplished or in the process, it is a biological response that can be felt in the body when we are connected with your true nature. The fulfillment it brings is greater than any external applause.
It has a quiet voice that whispers and lives in the terrain of inner peace. In the body.
We can hear it when we pause, breathe and slow down.
You have a voice, an expression within too beautiful not to be heard.
It comes with a word,
or the stroke of a brush,
or the next nail in the table,
or the next creative project.
The artist, the genius within is not exclusive of the known arts, it lives in all of us. Make the best sandwiches in town, saw your own clothes or create anything else for the love of it; for the love of the self.
Listen to the inner voice, or ask your nervous system how it feels.
No one is listening.
Are you, listening to
your inner child?
to your true self?
"The one that truly listens is within."
Listen. The voice you have been waiting for has always been inside you. Pause, breathe, and let it guide you home to your true self.
