That's Life!
Hello Coloriscious Soul
I have been a little remiss in my public and personal correspondance and I apologize if you've tried to contact me and I haven't responded yet. For the past couple of weeks my focus has been on my husband Win. He had planned total shoulder replacement surgery on Tuesday, an event we have been preparing for, both for the hospital stay and his return home. Its been a very emotional time. Win of course has been going through his own fears, but it also brought up my fear of abandonment.
My brother Philip died when I was 10 years old. We were close, emotionally bound. He was 23 and like a father to me. He "left me" that day when he passed into spirit. Even though he paid me a visit shortly after his death to let me know he was there, I still felt a strong sense of abandonment that subsequently colored all of my relationships.
When we cut skin the regrowth is different and creates a scar. Its a little reminder of the pain we experienced. Scars are not always visible. My heart was scarred and it manifest as "independence." Unfortunately, our scars can get in the way of success, happiness, life. Once I healed the scar my heart opened. This meant I was open to love, but it also meant the scar was no longer there to protect me from the pain of loss. So even though intuitively I knew everythng was going to be OK with Win and the operation would be a success, it didn't stop the emotional anticipation of possibly losing him.
"My life has been filled with terrible misfortune; most of which never happened." Michel De Montaigne, French Philosopher
We often fear something that hasn't happened to us yet. We fear losing a job, home, money, a relationship. We might worry about getting a serious illness, or maybe that we'll outlive everyone that can care for us in our old age, we even fear death. If what we fear has happened to us before and we're faced with it again, it can trigger those old feelings on top of new emotions, kind of a double whammy. But its still fear of something that isn't happening, we're fearing an event that isn't in our lives right now, it takes our power away and makes us weak. So what is the truth?
A study revealed that 85% of our fears don't materialize and of the 15% that do manifest the vast majority of us can manage and grow from the experience. The end result of the study showed that 97% of fears are unfounded.
So what are we worrying about?
Did you know that the hormones we produce when we're stressed and fearful can lead to lowered IQ, heart disease, cancer, premature aging, marital problems, and even dementia. Events in our lives trigger old responses often linked with childhood or a time when we were at our most vulnerable. In essence we created a way to deal with the pain when faced with an intensly emotional experience. The problem is this way of dealing with it then becomes our M.O, something that in later life we need to uncreate in order to function optimally.
If we live in the present moment then the fear doesn't seem to have the same power. This is what I did. I let go of fearing what "could" happen and focused on what "is" happening.
One of the easiest ways to let go of fear/worry/stress is through the breath. You can use an anchoring motion or action to ground your new relaxed state as you take a series of breaths.
Follow this routine:
- Place two fingers in the center of your forehead where your third eye would be and push as if you're pushing a button. Close your eyes and take a deep breath in while visualizing the color RED.
- Keep your finger pushing inward as you breath in while visualizing YELLOW.
- Continue pushing, breath in and visualize BLUE.
- Now relax your hand and take three more deep breathes, with the first breath visualize ORANGE, the second, GREEN and the third VIOLET.
- Let go of everything around you and just BE in the present moment.
This little technique helped me let go of fear and stay in the present moment, I hope it helps you too.
* FYI, Win came home today and is slowly recovering. On the day of his surgery I had all kinds of angelic messages letting me know they were watching over us. My intuition was right, there was no need to fear.
Let go of your fear, follow your intuition and breath!
Love & Blessings
