An Overview.

Mercury goes retrograde at 11 Aquarius on January 14. Today we take a look at some primary factors in the coming retrograde.

An Overview of the Retrograde

The coming retrograde will give us a new look at recent signals and information that we sent or received, and things from the past will be reviewed, re-examined, reevaluated, or understood differently. We can get a new look at our ideas, ways we’re communicating and understanding what others are communicating to us, and get new insights into all things related to Aquarius and Capricorn energy from now through early February.

We will all get another look at what inspires us, or remember how we used to find inspiration in the past. We now leave a time to practicing our skills at alternating between hard power and soft power this past year, and this one begins by giving us a new if roundabout path to inspiration, and ends by reminding us we’ve been finding “transcendent security” in relatively secure conditions these past two years.

The next 3 weeks will give us a new take on emergent developments, and what must be reviewed and released, or researched and rehearsed to prepare us to move forward in early February. Because of the “back to the future” quality of Mercury retrograde, we may also get glimpses of how the last 3 months have given us a new look at how our past has fed our future since we began to reshape how we communicate with others in October.

2021’s Mercury retrograde lessons involved commitments, seeing where we and others are at on the evolutionary ladder, and leaving elements of our past behind. We pruned and shaped our expression, learned how to build ideas, and then evaluated how well we learned the lessons of moving between heart power and mind power to reconstruct and/or repair something, including seeing how things came to be as they are/were. This year we’ll get new insights into many of the Air ideas we incorporated over the past year and find new ways to apply them practically.

So we enter a time of review, reflection, rehearsal, and new angles of focus on our ideals, aspirations, and sense of the bigger picture, preparing to round out our Aquarius and then Capricorn functions in some important ways. Mercury retrograde is great for taking a new look at past actions, feelings, ideas, and people to come to a different perspective about how these impacted our lives since then. As per all retrogrades, we’re done with the initial approach where “the stone was thrown into the pond,” and now enter a time when the ripples will return to source in multiple ways.

Mercury Retrograde Is In A Consistent Element Emphasis

Mercury retrograde element patterns repeat over the years. In the “past as prologue” department, 2018 was entirely in Fire signs until the last one, which paralleled 2012. 2019 featured two Water to Water retrogrades, paralleling 2013. So in 2019 we moved from feeling to feeling in March, from inspiration to feeling in July, and feeling to feeling in Oct-Nov.

In 2020 we moved from Water to Air in the Feb-March retrograde, from Water to Water in June-July, and Water to Air in October-November, paralleling 2014, except then all 3 retrogrades began in Water and went back to Air. This year all three retrogrades have begun in the last decan of an Air sign, and retrograde back to the middle decan of that sign. 2021 paralleled 2015, which also had all three Mercury retrograde periods in Air signs, and all trine each other, except they began in the second decan and ended in the first.

2022 brings us three Mercury retrograde periods. All three begin in early Air signs, and end in late Earth signs. the Jan-Feb RX begins in Air and ends in Earth. While the January 2016 retrograde had that, the other two began in Earth and ended in Earth. So this year we begin all three Mercury retrogrades in the associative element of Air and wind up in the practical element of Earth.

A Bit More

In the next 3 weeks, we can see what life has prepared for us since the last Mercury retrograde in September-October 2021. The next 3 weeks are a good time to take a look at the larger group work, or personal future oriented work you’ve done since last January. Find a new way of find inspiration or express your genius or ability to recognize newer, more innovative ways to accomplish collective goals.

Again, all of this is within the year theme of seeing that the past several years have set long term cycles into motion which will show us how we’ve actually attained a form of “transcendent security,” or can relax into a more mature, organized, and appropriate approach to finding ways to be in our power in emotional or social situations.

This is a look back at prior individual, intellectual, or spiritual “visions of a great contribution” which came to and from us in the past year, allowing us to evaluate how successful we’ve been at our commitments and leaving parts of our past behind. While Mercury is retrograde in the Air sign of Aquarius, review relationships and group interactions to see how they contributed to recent spiritual growth, and when it’s in the Earth sign of Capricorn, review how your life has reorganized these past two years, and how the responsibilities you’ve accepted are part of your path to fulfillment.

So welcome to many things being reviewed or coming back up from your subconscious mind or your connection to the collective these next three weeks thanks to the retrograde. This one allows us to review and get a new look at how we’re using Aquarius and Capricorn energy in our lives, and review how we’ve moved forward since October. The retrograde is a great time for new insights into how we’ve been guided to our Souls, as prelude to clearer guidance from early February forward.

Summing It Up

For all of us, the next several weeks offer glimpses of future visions which will open many doors of higher understanding and inspiration. This will give us a review of how we’ve handled the combination of the long wave Capricorn focus which began in 2020 and the long wave Aquarius focus which began in 2021. It begins with a reconsideration of some Aquarian ideal we’ve been chasing for a year with a possibility of seeing how the Cap structures set into motion in 2020 can be utilized in a different way.

This gives a chance to see how well our efforts have succeeded the past two years in allowing ourselves to be a part of a greater group vision and/or a greater ideal of how and what to contribute to a greater good. We are again reviewing our past so we may get a new inspired perspective on how to manage the tasks at hand.

Renewals, returns, reconnections, reunions, and a sense of completion with glimpses of a new life are promised by this retrograde. And of course, more on this Mercury retrograde period will come over the next few days, including Sabian Symbols, Jones Pattern, aspects and more!

Saturn: Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend

Because Saturn is in its home sign of Aquarius through 2023, it is the final dispositor of all planets transiting Capricorn and Aquarius, and had a major influence behind the scenes in the long wave cycles set into motion during the Great Compressions of 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. These cycles will affect us all for many years to come, so “making friends with your inner Saturn” is paramount for those who want to learn to master the process of their unfolding destiny.

Between now and 2023 and beyond, it will continue to play a big part in worldly affairs during this period of the Grand Mutation, ending a 200-year Earth dominated era and ushering in a 200-year Air dominated era in December 2020. It held great power during the January 2021 Mercury retrograde in Aquarius, as it ruled Mercury, and will also dominate this retrograde in Aquarius and Capricorn. As we’re still in the realm of its last direct station at 7 Aquarius, we’re still in a time of experiencing “new mutations” emanating from Cosmos which are taking shape as the planets transit that degree. Its ruler, Saturn is currently at 14 Aquarius, the same degree as its retrograde station in the Spring of 2021. I’ll comment more in the next article.
