Themes for the year of 2021 Pt. 1
Written by Robert Wilkinson
- The Difficult Birth of A New Era! -
About a week ago I gave my “Predictions for 2021” presentation at the Arizona Society of Astrologers meeting. Because there was so much interest last year, I figured you’d enjoy reading my notes on the talk here at the Aquarius Papers.
We stand at the threshold of a new era. 2021 is a combination of the past and the future as competing energies overlap at the dawning of a new 20 Aquarian era. We’ve now ended a 200 year Earth era, where all the Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions except one have been in Earth signs. I believe this marks a line of demarcation between the ultra-materialistic Era of the 19th and 20th centuries and the Era of Interrelatedness and synergy in the 21st and 22nd centuries.
The recent Grand Mutation conjunction at 1 Aquarius began a new 200 year Air sign dominance in human history, which we last knew in the 13th and 14th century. We now pick up where we left off in the early 15th century with the first Air sign conjunction since 1405. This one begins with the “building of spiritual touchstones which will outlive us” symbol at 1 Aquarius.
In 2019 and 2020 we built Capricorn structures which will serve us for years to come. In 2021 and 2022 we’ll use those structures to create a better world, a better future, and a better view of a greater good.
In early 2020 we had a Great Compression of planets in late Capricorn which set many long term cycles into motion, as did the subsequent Mars/Saturn and Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions at 1 Aquarius. All of these created overlapping cycles which are showing us how to use the structures of Capricorn to advance into a new way of seeing the bigger pictures in Aquarius. Wherever the span of 23 Capricorn through 1 Aquarius falls in our charts sets the primary focus for many years to come.
As we begin the year
Jupiter is now out front of Saturn, heralding what Saturn will crystallize this year and next. Jupiter paves the way through the shared vision of Aquarius until it moves into Pisces between mid-May and late July, promising a rebirth of compassion, of empathy, and of shared feelings within a larger sense of the whole world and human race this year, with a rapid expansion into a new collective atmosphere in 2022 when Jupiter conjuncts Neptune. While some associate that with floods or epidemics, it could also promise a huge emotional release for the entire human race, with millions opening to a new empathic connection with collective consciousness, the Earth, and life itself.
This year, we have numerous short and long term Aquarian cycles set into motion as Mercury, the Sun, and Venus all cross 1 Aquarius and then make conjunctions with Saturn and Jupiter. However, these future oriented Aquarian pulses are being challenged by both Mars and Uranus in Taurus!
The waxing squares from Mars to Jupiter and Saturn mark a turning point in the cycles begun in March and April 2020. In January, Jupiter makes an early waning square to Uranus, while Saturn pretty much stays in square all year. This square requires practicality to recognize and develop new potentials despite the friction while disregarding obsolete or unimportant considerations by staying focused on what’s really pertinent in situations.
So if you find yourself being challenged in ways which describe the Aquarius to Taurus squares, remember that the wise expression of Leo and/or Scorpio energies will bring balance to situations. In all conflicts, be creative, regard it as a challenge to be bright and loving in taking command of the situation, and build heart strength. Look at the magnetism, look at where the energy is stuck, and see what needs eliminating and what is lacking.
Speaking of Mars and Jupiter
They began this cycle in March 2020 in late Capricorn. Once Mars entered Aquarius, it set Aquarian energies into motion for all of us, culminating in early May when we all, in one form or another, “graduated into a new realm of being” as Mars transited the transfiguration zone at 29/30 Aquarius, which is the cusp of the Great Age we’re entering the second half of this century.
Whatever our metamorphosis last year, we will see greater truths and adventures open to us when Jupiter transits the transfiguration zone at the end of April through mid-May, late July through mid-August, and the last two weeks of December. To the extent we have accepted the duty to transcend who we were this time last year, we will see doors of opportunity and blessing open for us three times in the last 8 months of 2021.
Mars got stuck in Aries the last half of 2020, and made two waxing, or emergent squares to Jupiter and Saturn in Capricorn between August and October. Now in January we have experienced the third square, this time from Taurus to Aquarius. Because these squares also show Mars conjunct Uranus, it amplifies the Saturn square Uranus challenges going on globally.
The square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus could be characterized as the conflict between forces which want to move into the future and forces which want to stay stuck in the past. Jupiter and Saturn represent the new 20 year Aquarian era unfolding which will quicken beginning in 2023 when Pluto enters Aquarius, allowing the seeds of the coming New Age to sprout into collective consciousness.
The houses Mars transits our charts show us life areas where there will be new initiatives, or a need to “attack the problems of life,” or deal with agitation or aggravation. A Mars transit over a planet indicates the end of a 2 year cycle and beginning of a new one. Wherever you have Taurus through Sagittarius will be activated by Mars this year. Any planets you have in that span of signs will end old ways of expression and begin new forms of expression as Mars conjuncts them.
In January, Mars finally left late Aries and moved into Taurus creating the massive squares of in mid-January. It stays in Taurus through early March, so if you have planets in Aquarius, Leo, or Scorpio, be a bit cautious or turn a life corner, putting the brakes on some things while letting other things move forward.
This will be true in March and most of April for those with planets in Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius. Mars in Cancer from late April through mid-June puts pressure on planets in Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. In June Mars opposes Pluto. This will be the first non-lunar opposition since late November 2020, and begins a new run of transit to transit oppositions in Cancer, Leo, Virgo, and Scorpio involving Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn and Jupiter.
Mars is in Leo from mid-June to late July, again putting pressure on planets in Fixed signs. Mars is in Virgo August and the first half of September, again putting pressure on planets in Mutable signs. Mars in Libra from mid-September through late October puts pressure on planets in Cardinal signs. It spends November through mid-December in Scorpio, and ends the year in Sagittarius.
ECLIPSES
This year we have the usual 4 Eclipses. The first is the May 26 Total Lunar Eclipse at 6 Sagittarius/Gemini. Most of the US will be able to see this beginning around 4:44 a.m. Eastern time. On the CA Pacific rim, that show will start at 3:11 a.m. PST. The moon will turn a bright orange-red, making it a “blood moon.”
Then, just two weeks later, on June 10 we have an Annular Solar Eclipse at 20 Gemini. This will be visible in the US eastern and upper Midwestern, and eastern Canada just after sunrise from 5 to 6 a.m. Eastern time.
On Nov 19 we have a Partial Lunar Eclipse at 28 Taurus/Scorpio. The Earth’s shadow will cover nearly the entire moon’s surface and is visible in the US beginning at 2:18 am EST, with the greatest eclipse at 4 a.m. Eastern time.
The December 4 Total Solar Eclipse at 13 Sagittarius will not be visible in the US.
Part 2 will continue the talk, with a focus on the fluxes in the spiritual field, Mercury retrograde themes, and points of dynamic tension, choice, and change. See you soon!
