Boost Energy with Easy Daily Movements

Boost Energy with Easy Daily Movements

Most of us move too little throughout the day. Maybe not you, but lots of us.

We sit for a big portion of the day, we lie down for some of it, maybe we have a workout at some point, but 98% of the day is spent not moving.

There are some solutions, like a standing desk or treadmill desk, that can be a decent approach. But something simple to consider is just working in small movements throughout the day.

Of course, that’s always easier said than done. I’m here to share a few ideas to help with this idea:

  • Start with mindset: Begin with the idea that moving more is going to bring a new sense of health, energy and aliveness, and that you’re allergic to sitting too long.
  • Create reminders: How will you remember to move more? Setting up some digital reminders, or physical ones (notes around your house or office, for example), can help a lot. The main thing is to start to develop more of an awareness of this intention. Are you sitting for a while? Get a little movement in!
  • Find a variety of simple movements: We want to mix it up. You could do some pushups, walk around the block, stretch, clean something, declutter, do a few chores, do 1 or 2 yoga stretches. Anything where you move is good!
  • Enjoy the exploration: The idea is that this isn’t another “should” you’re adding to your list, but an exploration of what it feels like to move more throughout the day. What feels really good? What level of easiness or intensity feels right? Does it feel good to move while cleaning or decluttering? Explore and be curious.
  • Don’t overdo it: Ease into this. It’s easy to get enthusiastic and overdo it, which will leave you sore and tired and not wanting to move for a few days. It’s better to sprinkle in some small movements in at first, nothing too challenging, and slowly adapt.

How can you get started with simple movements today?
