Venus leaves dramatically expressive Leo at 9:05 pm PDT on September 4 and enters precise, practical, and fussy Virgo, where it stays until it enters elegant and idealistic Libra on September 29. What does Venus’ passage through Virgo hold for all of us?

In May, we had the dynamic “ready, fire, aim” impulsive genuineness of Venus in Aries, which then led to Venus in its steady, enjoyable, and pleasant home in Taurus through the Solstice. We then spent 4 weeks with Venus in the exploratory Air of Gemini, 4 weeks in the sensitive, kind, caring sign of Cancer and up to now, 4 weeks in dramatic and expressive Leo. We now move into a different groove in the Venus ruled areas of our lives to value and express a more practical, detail oriented “Self-adjustment” in Virgo. This reorients our current social instincts away from heartfelt spontaneity into humility and service.

To give a brief recap of what we’ve been through since April, while Venus in Pisces feels everything there is to feel, and Venus in Aries feels only what is immediate and passing, leaping forward into relationships and quick to like and “unlike” things, Venus in Taurus savors each moment. Venus in Taurus likes what it likes and is not inclined to try new things unless they’re easy and pleasant. While Venus in Aries is highly agitated, Venus in Taurus likes comfort and ease.

When Venus was in Gemini, it began a new “pulse,” and we experienced a more curious, playful, open and adaptable approach to our likes, loves, and fancies. Venus in Gemini gives a “love of learning,” a love of exploring all the ideas there are to explore which capture the imagination. It is good with words and ideas, constantly solving the infinite puzzles of information and how to put it together.

Venus in Cancer loves a deeper, more tender connection with people and experience. While it is VERY sensitive, it is also the most caring placement for Venus, because it rules Taurus, the exaltation of the Moon. The Moon does well in Venus signs, and Venus does well in Lunar signs (I include Leo, as the Moon is the spiritual ruler of Leo, as I explain in Saturn, Spiritual Master, Spiritual Friend.

Venus in Leo began a new pulse, and took the introversion and sensitivity of Cancer and turned it outward in creative and dramatic forms of expression. Having been “flooded with energy,” Venus now completes this dual pulse by learning to value expressing “significant form” and “divine Discernment.” This brings the next shift in the energy of planets and houses we have in Taurus and Libra. Whereas Venus in Leo brought more natural creativity and play with the people in our lives, Venus in Virgo “makes lists” and always has an eye to details, even when they don’t matter.

We learned a lot about new Venusian likes, values, and the social promise in Gemini, and in Cancer got to secure those things in our lives in ways which nurture us and allow us to have deeper relationships. Leo gave us a new enthusiasm and sense of heartfelt liking and loving of things and people, and Virgo helps us find the place and function of each detail in our lives. Use the next few weeks to find a new value and/or appreciation for those you have served well, and those who have served you well. Venus in Virgo is good for all things related to work and figuring out what fits where.

We’ve already experienced this year’s Virgo energies via the Sun and Mercury. What we experience through the lens of Venus these next 4 weeks will activate in dynamic ways when Mars transits Virgo in July and August 2023 just before Venus goes stationary retrograde at 29 Leo in late July.

Venus in Virgo harmonizes with Venus in the Earth and Water signs, and brings those with Venus in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces to a turning point in their relationships. Even though it’s said to be in the sign of its “Fall” in Virgo (being the opposite of its exaltation in Pisces), it’s also in harmony with both of the signs it rules. It is in trine to its rulership of Taurus, and in its own 12th house relative to its rulership of Libra. So it’s somewhat naturally expressive of its Taurus side, and bringing many things to a close relative to its Libra side.

It should be good for people with Sun in Virgo, because when Venus comes to visit your Sun, you could find yourself beholding something or someone of great beauty or value who can illuminate you in Venusian ways. Because it is the backdrop to how planets in Taurus and Libra express themselves, if things move away from dramatic and expressive to more humble and practical, open to the play, since you may find yourself accomplishing more than you imagine, and may have the ability to create some things of practical value with or for others which are perfect for everyone!

So welcome to the gateway to a new Venusian experience which will lead us to a more measured, precise, humble and practical social expression! After this phase, once it enters Libra in late September, it’ll be back in its home sign and enjoying the beauty of life! As our Venus response evolves, we have the capability to enjoy the subtle pleasures in life to the fullest. No longer over-indulgent or self-denying, we can choose what to like and find a rich appreciation for the banquet of life experiences which are ours for the enjoying!

Venus’ duality is Wisdom/Folly. By our Venus responses, we are led out of erroneous values, vanities, and ways of interacting into the wisdom of “Right Relationship.” In esoteric philosophy, Venus is said to be the elder sister of the Earth, so perhaps our Venus shows us how to refine what is of value and leave the superficial and vain imaginings of the ego behind, just as humanity is learning globally at this time in history. Venus is definitely part of the equation in our personal and interpersonal happiness.
